Blog Logs

Today's shortwave BLOG LOGS, represent a portion of logs recently cut from my SWBC Logs column in Monitoring Times magazine, due to space constraints. Radio China International relay 7285, 2055. Chinese language program into newscast at 2100. SIO 555. (B Fraser).

Radio China International relay 6175, 2210-2230+ Portuguese newscast and featured segments. Mentions of "China" and "America" during the text. Recorded segments were in Chinese. (C Bolland).

Australia
ABC 4910, 0803-0815. Fading up over the noise every second or two. Noted a religious program with call-ins during English broadcast. (C Bolland).

Austria
ORF 6155, 1845. German program of classical music, noted broadcasting every weekend. Fair signal quality. SIO 353. (B Fraser).

Bulgaria
Radio Bulgaria 5900, 2120. Events and Developments program. SIO 554, .. 9700 SIO 454(B Fraser).

Canada
CFVP relaying CKMX 6030, 2314-2325. Country & Western songs to numerous IDs. promo for wining trip to Las Vegas amid poor signal quality and rapid flutter, in the clear to 2325. (R Howard)

Chile
Voz Cristiana 6070.10, 0840-0850. religious singing to Spanish religious text, returning to music. Good signal quality. (C Bolland).

China
China Huayi Broadcasting Co. 4830, 1340. Listener's phone-in program to station ID. Chinese segments includng newscast. SIO 353. (P Ng). at 1400.

Central People's Broadcasting Station, Xi'an 9500, 1010-1020. Steady Chinese comments from lady announcer - noting background music during segment. Signal of poor quality. (C Bolland)

PBS-XZDT, Lhasa 6200, 1220-1235. Thanks to tip from S. Hasegawa, heard station with relay on CNR-1 // 5030 kHz in Chinese. Male/female host in conversation to series of ads and announcements during fair signal quality. (R Howard).

Dominican Republic
Radio Cristal Internacional/Radio Pueblo 5009.78, 2320-0000.* (tentative). Latin American music including Spanish ballads. Signal fair-good with somewhat low modulation. (B Alexander)

Ecuador
HCJB 6125, 0900-1030. Program sign-on followed by Ecuadorian music program and Quecha language comments. Signal good. (C Bolland).

HCJB 6160, 0900-1030. Lady announcer's Portuguese text to Portuguese music sung in Portuguese. Signal goood. (C Bolland).

Ethiopia
Radio Ethiopia 7110, *0259-0310. Interval signal to opening announcements in Amharic at 0300. Gong tones and talk segment and Horn of Africa style music. No // programming noted. Signal weak but readable with some adjacent channel splatter. (B Alexander).

Greece
R.S. Makedonias 7450, 1951-2005. Greek folk music to Greek text and presumed listener's request. Station ID at 2000 into newscast. Signal fair-good. (S Barbour).

Guam
AWR/Voice of Hope KSDA. 11690, 1600. English religious programming to "Adventist World Radio " ID. Contemporary Christian music to religious text. Poor signal quality in noisy conditions plus RTTY QRM in the low side. Noted very weak on // 9585kHz. (B Alexander).

Guatemala
Radio Buenas Nuevas 4799.8, 0238-0300. Spanish progrtam of talk between musical ballads. Full station ID at 0300. Weak signal quality. (S Barbour).

Malaysia
Klasik Nasional FM via Kajang 5964.94, 1251-1312. Vocal music to 1258 with "Klasik Nasional" ID and long station jingle, dropping to "FM>" Kuala Lumpur news relay at 1300 followed by usual two pips signal and time check "Sembilan waktu..." The news was noted on parallel freq 7270.02. Program back to local studio at 1310, going into music following the news. Signal fair good and QRM free for this session. (J Wilkins)

Malaysia-Sarawak
Wai FM via RTM Kuching 7270, 1239-1303. Presumed this station with familiar chanting to 1257. Lady announcer's comment and interval signl on local instrument at 1259. Two pip signal and Kuala Lumpur newscast relay in Bahasa Malaysia. Signal quality rough amid QRM. (J Wilkins).

North Korea
KCBS Pyongyang 2850.03, 1237-1246. Stirring patriotic music to instrumentals and vocals. Signal fair and fading fast. (J Wilkins).

Northern Marianas
Voice of America relay via Tinian 6110, 1104-1108. Chinese service for male/female host talking over Firedrake jammer. Moderate signal SINPO 32333. (J Evans).

Niger
LV du Sahel 9704.99, 2127-2158.* French pop/ballad tunes to French talk. Local drums and music to Quran at 2151-2156. Choral national anthrm at 2156. Test tones at 2158 and off the air. Signal fair with adjacent channel splatter. (B Alexander).

Pirate
The Crystal Ship 3429.63, 0010-0020. Tune-in to English news comments on war in Iraq to station ID. Announcer John Poet with yahoo address and Belfast, New York maildrop address. Anti-war music with fair signal quality. Noted on // 6700.15. (B Alexander).

WTCR/Twentieth Century Radio 3430USB, 0235-0307.* Station ID to Allman Brothers music to blues tunes. Belfast, New York maildrop address. Signal strong and very good. (B Alexander).

Russia
Voice of Russia 9890, 1827. Essay contest on 30 years of English broadcasting. SIO 433. (B Fraser).

Thailand
Radio Thailand 12095, 0055-0103. Just caught end of English broadcast with ID. Announcement on getting a VAT refund to anthem, listed Thai service at 0102. (B Alexander).

Ukraine
Radio Ukraine 7490, 1928-1952. Music selections from Ukraine featuring an acapella signing group to jazz acts. Signal fair. (S Barbour).

United Kingdom
BBC World Service 12095, 2118. Item on new type of light source and a new dirt remover. SIO 555. Noted on // 15400 with SIO 454. (B Fraser).

United States
Radio Taiwan International via WYFR relay 15600, 2215. Report on Taiwanese serving in Japanese Army during WW II. SIO 555. (B Fraser).

Uzbekistan
CVC-Tashkent 9480, 0102-0120. Tune-in to English news into sports update. CVC identification to pop music at 0107. Poor signal quality and weak, noisy conditions. (B Alexander).

Zanzibar
Radio Tanzania-Zanzibar 11735, 1755-1815. Swahili service of tak and local music. Local drums at 1759 to time tips and English news at 1800-1810. "Spice FM" identification to Swahili talk at 1810. Fair signal quality. (B Alexander).
