Libyan government to launch website in English

The General People’s Committee has announced on its Arabic language website, www.gpc.gov.ly, that it will be launching an English version.

“In developing its connections with public visitors to the website, which receives more than one million visitors per month, look out for the launch of the English-language version of the official GPC website soon on the occasion of the Libyan people’s celebrations of the fortieth anniversary of the Great Al Fatah Revolution”, the news release said.

There are very few local sources of English language news on Libya. JANA, Libya’s official news agency, and LJBC the Libyan Jamahiriya Broadcasting Corporation, both have English version websites - but they are very limited in their output.

Andy Sennitt adds: There is already a button saying “English” on the Arabic website, but the new site has not yet been activated.
