Prix Europa and the European Day of Culture

10.09.2007

To kick off the third Radio Day of European Cultures, Prix Europa and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are teaming up for a concert of "R'nBesk Meets Swing."
The concert will be broadcast worldwide in surround sound via satellite and the Internet by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) station Radiomultikulti. The program originates live on 13 October from the Großer Sendesaal in the RBB Haus des Rundfunks in Berlin, 20:00 to 21:00 CEST (UTC+2:00).

The online surround sound broadcast is audible using the free Octoshape-Plugin, Windows Media Player and a 5.1-compliant soundcard.

The concert, which both launches the 2007 Radio Day and marks Eid ul-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, is billed as a "musical dialogue" between German-Turkish pop star Muhabbet and The Capital Dance Orchestra big band.

Muhabbet describes his mix of R&B, Turkish Arabesk and pop music with German lyrics as "R'nBesk." The Capital Dance Orchestra is an international big band, playing hits of the 1920s, classical swing, tango and bossa nova.

The Radio Day of European Cultures is designed to use radio in all its forms to draw the audience into a discussion about and celebration of "the European way of life." Participating stations will focus on Europe in their programs — on air, online, podcasts, etc. — throughout the day, highlighting the diversity of European cultures and how they come together to build a common European identity.

The EBU and Prix Europa first launched the biannual Radio Day in 2003.
