Filming begins for offshore radio comedy

Offshore radio ships have returned to British waters, but this time with full permission from the authorities. A 50-year-old lightship has joined a 44-year-old former standby vessel in Weymouth Bay on the south coast of England to play the parts of pirate radio ships in the new comedy film The Boat That Rocked.
Filming, which will also involve a number of chartered motorboats with a 1960s look, will take place over the next two months. The film about the fictitious station Radio Rock is written and directed by Richard Curtis, and its cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost, and Kenneth Branagh.
