India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026. 

Details of special programs by Akashvani for the occasion include:

On August 14, 2026 (Friday) 1330 UTC Akashvani will air the Address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day in Hindi and English by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon'ble President of India. All stations of Akashvani will relay the address on mediumwave, FM and shortwave.

Akashvani  Home Service stations will broadcast live commentary in English and Hindi on the Flag Hoisting and Prime Minister's address to the nation. The address will be held at the Red Fort, New Delhi, 0130-0240 UTC on August 15 on the following schedule:

15260 kHz (Bengaluru)- 250 kW   

Hindi

9740 kHz (New Delhi) -  100 kW

15410 kHz (Bangalore) - 250 kW

Baluchi, Burmese, Indonesian and Nepali external services will not air on August 15. The External Service will begin with India's national anthem, Vande Mataram.
