Reprieve for RTÉ Longwave
A retired RTÉ radio engineer and long-time campaigner to preserve RTÉ radio transmissions to the UK has urged Irish who save 252 LW groups not to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”.
The chair of Ireland’s Oireachtas Communications Hildegarde Naughton TD (Galway West and South Mayo) announced last week that a major antenna upgrade will ensure the transmission of RTÉ on long-wave will continue for at least the next two years.
RTÉ has repeatedly tried to axe the service on cost grounds, urging listeners here to continue listening via the internet or satellite tuners.
That has been resisted as impractical, and second best, by many older and elderly Irish, especially in the north-west, for whom RTÉ radio is deemed to combat loneliness and isolation and for whom their portable radios provide companionship.
Plans to provide a version of the RTÉ One radio service on DAB have been turned down by the UK regulator, Ofcom.

Shortwave Radiogram Transmission Schedule
UTC Day UTC Time Frequency Transmitter
Saturday 0230-0300 UTC 9265 kHz WINB Pennsylvania
Sunday 0800-0830 UTC 5850 kHz

Sunday 2330-2400 UTC 7780 kHz WRMI Florida
The Mighty KBC transmits to North America Sundays at 0000-0200 UTC (Saturday 8-10 pm EDT) on 9925 kHz, via Germany. A minute of MFSK is at about 0130 UTC. (This weekend: Another text-image-music combination.) Reports to Eric: themightykbc@gmail.com . See also http://www.kbcradio.eu/ and https://www.facebook.com/TheMightyKbc/.
“This is a Music Show” is the newest addition to digital modes via analog shortwave. Most of the show is a music show, but the host transmits some MFSK text and image near the end of the broadcast. It’s transmitted on WRMI, 9395 kHz, Thursday 0130-0230 UTC (Wednesday evening in the Americas). Also look for a waterfall ID at the beginning of the show. thisisamusicshow@gmail.com . www.instagram.com/thisisamusicshow/ www.twitter.com/ThisIsAMusicSho/
New York and Pennsylvania NBEMS nets. Most weekends, as KD9XB, I check in to the New York NBEMS (Narrow Band Emergency Messaging Software) net Saturday at 1200 UTC on 3584 kHz USB, and the Pennsylvania NBEMS net Sunday at 1200 UTC on 3583 kHz USB (with out-of-state check-ins now starting at 1130 UTC). Check-ins are usually in Thor 22, and messages are in MFSK32 (PA NBEMS is experimenting with Thor 50x1 for messages). Messages generally use the Flmsg add-on to Fldigi. If you are a radio amateur in eastern North America, feel free to check in. Outside the region, use an SDR in the eastern USA to tune in and decode. You do not need Flmsg to check in, and most of the messages can be read without Flmsg. If you can decode the net, send me an email to radiogram@verizon.net , or tweet to @SWRadiogram , and I will let them know you are tuned in.
Thanks for your reception reports!

Radio Mi Amigo summer schedule update
Dear Radio Mi Amigo International friends,
Only last week we announced the return of Flemish programmes to Radio Mi Amigo International, originally scheduled as a morning show on Fridays.
Even though we had high expectations, again we were blown away by the support of so many fans of the original 70s Radio Mi Amigo tuning in, many of them finding us for the first time. Our new guys (both close friends of Peter van Dam) bring back sweet memories of that successful, notorious Belgian offshore radio station in the 70s, the only one that kept going when all of the other stations stopped.
Johan Vermeer, one of our Dutch jocks, found himself at sea for Radio Mi Amigo in the 70s. Same as our Johnny Lewis who, even though he worked (and still does) for Radio Caroline, sometimes could be heard on Radio Mi Amigo as well: "the only Brit to ever do so", als he fondly remembers.
So it was a no-brainer to reschedule Eric Hofman and Dirk Moerman's live show from Antwerp to the weekend, where on Saturdays and Sundays, it can now be heard next to the other Dutch language shows on our station. Now even more people can enjoy what is fastly becoming a real '2019-incarnation' of the legendary Belgian/Dutch radio station, broadcasting from the good old radio ship 'MV Mi Amigo', after which our station is named.
As we've arrived in the first week of July, we traditionally switch to a Summer Schedule (from July 1st until September), going into effect this weekend.
Expect more exciting news, as we will soon announce the return of well known radio friends and some great radio events we're planning for the coming months. Stay tuned to 'Europe's Nr1 Oldies Station'..!
Our summer program schedule will be on our website https://ymlpmail1.com/81726uqacaehjwwagayjualaehm/click.php

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 01 - 07 July 2019
Solar activity was at very low levels throughout the reporting period. Region 2744 (S27, Lo=207 class/area=Bxo/20 on 07 Jul) only produced several low-level B-class events and appears to have an reverse polarity magnetic configuration.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at normal background levels.
Geomagnetic field activity transitioned from unsettled early on 01 Jul to quiet for the remainder of the reporting period. A weak enhancement in the solar wind on 01 Jul was obscured by the intermittent mag data from L1.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 08 July - 03 August 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels throughout the outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach moderate levels from 11-14 Jul due to influence from a positive polarity CH HSS. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at normal background levels.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to active. Active levels are expected from 09-11 Jul in response to influence from an anticipated positive polarity CH HSS. Unsettled levels are likely on 28 Jul due to a SSBC. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at quiet levels under a nominal solar wind regime.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 17 - 23 June 2019
Solar activity was at very low levels. No sunspots were observed on the visible disk. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available imagery.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at moderate levels on 17 Jun with a peak flux of 109 pfu observed at 17/2025 UTC. Normal levels were observed on 18-23 Jun.
Geomagnetic field activity was at quiet levels with an isolated unsettled period observed for 0600-0900 UTC period on 20 June. Solar wind parameters were at mostly nominal levels through the period. A peak wind speed of near 425 km/s was observed early on 22 Jun. Bt and Bz parameters were at mostly nominal levels.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 24 June - 20 July 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels throughout the outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to be moderate to high levels on 25 Jun - 03 Jul in response to the elevated wind speeds associated with recurrent CH HSS activity. Normal levels are expected for the remainder of the outlook period.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach unsettled to isolated active levels on 24-26 Jun, 06 Jul and 10-11 Jul due to negative polarity CH HSS influence. Quiet conditions are expected for the remainder of the outlook period.
