Stetement on the future of Overcomer Ministry

Attention Overcomer Listeners
Due to legal difficulties, as of January 1st, 2018, the Overcomer Ministry will not be broadcasting on AM/FM radio and shortwave.
The Overcomer broadcast will continue on satellite and on this website stream."

“Legal difficulties” are not specified, it might be that broadcast contracts after 31st December had not been arranged prior to the arrest and detention of Brother Stair on 18 December.
He had been appealing for donations in order to continue broadcasting after the end of December only a few weeks ago.

WRMI and WHRI have already stopped carrying Overcomer but Brother Stair continues to be heard on other shortwave stations including WBCQ, WWCR and WWRB – at least until 31st December.

Cuban Christmas Programming from Tilford Productions

Shortwave Radiogram schedule, December 23-24

As demonstrated by the easily visible trace in the waterfall, Frederic in France had good (too good!) reception of the Olivia 128-2000 17 December 2017, 2330-2400 UTC, 11580 kHz from WRMI Florida.

Hello friends,
We had a busy but mostly successful program last weekend. The 8PSK-125FL and 250FL modes worked well if reception conditions were reasonably good. The 8PSK-500F with Flamp also produced some 100% decoded files, often on the second or third pass, which is exactly how Flamp is supposed to work.

The Olivia 128-2000 resulted in 100% decodes in some very poor conditions.

This weekend we will take a break from the experimentation for an all-MFSK32 show. This will be transmitted during all four time slots this weekend, i.e. there will be no special “slow show” Sunday at 2330 UTC.

For program 27, 23-24 December 2017, Shortwave Radiogram will transmit twelve MFSK32 images of holiday lights from cities and towns throughout the United States. Shortwave reception conditions might make some of these photos fuzzier, but more charming.

With the images following in quick succession, screen capture might be difficult. Keep in mind that Fldigi automatically saves decoded MFSK images as png files in the folder \fldigi.files\images\ (in Windows; folder names may be different in other operating systems).

1) Saturday, 1600-1630 UTC, 9400 kHz from Bulgaria, received by Mark in the UK (about 2000 km). MFSK32 text was 100%, with images received. 8PSK-125F was 100%, but one sentence was mangled in 8PSK-250FL. The 8PSK-500F with Flamp received all blocks after multiple passes.

2) Saturday, 1600-1630 UTC, 9400 kHz from Bulgaria, received by François in France. Conditions were more challenging, but the MFSK32 performed well. The 8PSK-125FL and -250FL modes showed errors. But the 8PSK-500F with Flamp received all 25 blocks in the first pass, just before the signal faded.

On Christmas Eve, Norddeutsche Rundfunndr broadcasts messages to sailors all over the world in the radio broadcast "Gruss an Bord" or "Greeting aboard" - greetings to the ship's crew in their home country. The greetings to the sailors were recorded at two "greeting on board" events in the Adventszeit: on 4 December in the Cultural memory in Wilhelmine gear in neutral and on December 11 in the Hamburg Seemannsmission "Duckdalben". Relatives and friends had the opportunity to wish their loved ones at sea a happy holiday and a good new year. The show "Greeting aboard" was heard for Christmas 1953 for the first time on the radio. It is thus one of the oldest existing radio broadcasts in the world.

WMLK orders new shortwave transmitter

Shortwave Transmitter with a Simple to Handle UCS Control Systems

Turgi, Switzerland, November 30, 2017. Ampegon has received a new contract from WLMK Radio, based in Pennsylvania, United States, for development and installation of a new 300 kW high power Shortwave Transmitter with test load, matrix switch and remote control system.

In spring 2017, WMLK Radio's transmitter building caught fire and the previous Ampegon transmitter (originally built in 1975 under our heritage BBC brand, and working reliably until the fire) was completely destroyed. Ampegon is now pleased to be working with WMLK to provide a replacement transmitter as quickly as possible and get their radio station back on-air.

Ampegon will provide our latest transmitter model featuring a high performance PSM power supply, the latest filter technology and Ampegon’s intuitive UCS control system. This allows the entire transmitter to be operated from a single touch screen, or even remotely over the internet. These features provide significant benefits over the heritage generation BBC transmitter, including greater electrical efficiency, significant reliability improvements, and the ability to retune rapidly.

Ampegon’s Radio Transmitter Construction Group aims to give WMLK a high priority in order to have the station back on-air by October 2018.

Arrest of Brother Stair confirmed

Arrest of Brother Ralph Stair confirmed on multiple charges

Colleton County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived at the Overcomer Ministry at 12680 Augusta Highway early Monday morning to take Ralph G. Stair, the leader of the religious compound, into custody on eight criminal charges.
Lt. Tyger Benton, public information officer of the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said a large contingent of law enforcement officers arrived at the church compound Monday at approximately 7:30 a.m. to take Stair, 84, into custody.
The charges, all filed by the sheriff’s office investigators, include three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and single counts of assault with the intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Stair was transported to the Colleton County Detention Center on the charges and is expected to have a bond hearing Monday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office personnel arriving enmass at the compound were joined by agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 11 - 17 December 2017
Solar activity was quiet throughout the entire reporting period. The strongest event was a B6 flare from a plage region on the E. limb at 11/0052 UTC. A filament was observed in SDO/AIA 304 imagery lifting off of the SE quadrant, near S25E47, at approximately 15/1229 UTC.

The event was modeled using WSA/Enlil which suggested the potential for the periphery of the CME to become geo effective around 19 Dec. No additional Earth-directed CMEs were observed.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at normal to high levels on 11 and 17 Dec, normal to moderate levels
were observed on 12 and 13 Dec and moderate levels were observed on 14-16 Dec. A maximum flux of 2,300 pfu was observed at 11/0000 UTC.

Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to G1 (Minor), mostly due to CH HSS influence, during the reporting period. Quiet levels were observed on 15-16 Dec; quiet to unsettled levels were observed on 11 and 13-14 Dec; quiet to active levels were observed on 12 Dec; the peak levels of quiet to G1 (Minor) levels were observed 17 Dec.

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 18 December - 13 January 2018
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels throughout the forecast period. No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geos nchronous orbit is expected to reach moderate levels on 18 Dec, 22 Dec - 01 Jan, and 07-13 Jan; high levels are likely on 19-21 Dec and 02-06 Jan. All increases in electron flux are anticipated due to the expected
influence of recurrent CH HSSs.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach G1 (Minor) storm levels on 18-19 Dec, 01 Jan, and 13 Jan. Active conditions are likely on 20 Dec, 27 Dec, 02 Jan, and 08 Jan. Unsettled levels are
likely on 21-22 Dec, 28 Dec, 31 Dec, 03 Jan and 09 Jan. All elevations in geomagnetic field activity are anticipated from multiple, recurrent CH HSSs. The remainder of the forecast period is expected to observe quiet conditions.

Shortwave Radiogram programming

Hello friends,
Sorry about the rerun during last weekend’s broadcast Saturday at 1600-1630 UTC broadcast on 9400 kHz. Listeners who did not receive the promised Flamp transmission can decode from audio provided by Roger in Germany and video provided by Scott in Ontario. Another Flamp item will be broadcast this weekend.

Most of this weekend’s Shortwave Radiogram will be in our usual MFSK32, with four images. But we will also include three 8PSK modes: 8PSK-125FL, 8PSK-250FL, and 8PSK-500F. The RSIDs should switch Fldigi to the correct modes. If you must change modes manually, note that the first two are 8PSK-125FL (not -125F) and 8PSK-250FL (not -250F). You can read about the 8PSK modes here. (Sorry, these 8PSK modes are not yet available on TIVAR or AndFlmsg.)

The 8PSK-500F news item uses Flamp. Download Flamp from here and read the manual here. Under the Flamp Configure menu, select “Auto sync flamp to fldigi mode selector.” This will force Flamp to use whatever mode Fldigi is using. Make sure Flamp is running before the 8PSK-500L transmission begins.

This time we will use smaller blocks with Flamp, to improve the chances that the file is received 100%. There will be 25 blocks of 240 bytes each, transmitted four times. If the file is received 100%, click Flamp’s File > Folders > rx, and the file China_internet_conference.txt should be found in the folder for the date of reception.

If possible, record your reception. You can try to decode the 8PSK items, including the one in Flamp, several times. Experiment with different audio players (Windows versus VLC, etc) and different equalizer settings, compressors, and other audio tricks.

The Slow Show. This weekend, the broadcast Sunday at 2330-2400 UTC, providing poor reception in most parts of the world as we approach the winter solstice, will entirely be in the Olivia 128-2000 mode. This is a very slow mode, only 17 wpm, but it might be able to overcome difficult conditions. Even if you cannot hear the tones or see a trace on your waterfall, you might still be able to decode the text. Make sure that Fldigi’s squelch (SQL) is off. If your reception is bad, this could be interesting. If it is good, this will be as much fun as watching paint dry.

There is no RSID for Olivia 128-2000, so you need to set it manually. Under the Fldigi Op Mod menu, select Olivia > Custom: then dial up a bandwidth of 2000 Hz, with 128 Tones. Again, record your reception if possible. You can then experiment with the integration period in that same menu. If you increase the number of FEC blocks, your decode might improve. It will also increase the delay time between hearing the tones and seeing the text print out, but this is less of a problem in receiving a broadcast than in an amateur radio QSO. Read about Olivia, including the integration period, here. Also try different audio players and settings. (Sorry again: TIVAR and AndFlmsg do not include Olivia 128-2000.)
