If we're to believe what the statistics are saying, we're getting fatter and fatter. Some experts tell us we're in the middle of an obesity epidemic that is more dangerous than climate change or even weapons of mass destruction.
The World Health Organisation reckons 300 million people are obese, and within ten years that figure will more than double. By the year 2015 over 2 billion will be classified as overweight. But can we believe such figures? No, says Patrick Basham author of a book called 'Diet Nation: exposing the obesity crusade'.
He joins our panel this week and debates with a health promoter and a researcher with fresh figures.

This week on Earthbeat - failed states. What actually is a failed state? What is the day to day reality of people who live in one. Haiti is a prime example: people have no decent healthcare unless they pay for it on the side, no roads, no garbage removal.
Burma may not be a failed state, but for its people it may as well be. They live in near destitution despite being citizens of a country rich in resources. Burma is home to some of the world's last great teak forests, but they're being stripped without any thought of the future. Western consumers may not know or want to know where their expensive lawn furniture is coming from, but Earthbeat investigates why Burmese teak is known to some environmentalists as blood wood.
And on a more positive note, a Dutch company has figured out a way of meeting the demand for hardwood that's not cut down in an unsustainable way - hardwood that's made not grown.
