On 9290 kHz Radio Spaceshuttle, will broadcast a short but fun show on 9290 kHz starting perhaps sometime between 7 to 8 hours UTC Sunday 9th of July. 

Wish conditions are okay for propagation to low-power transmitter.

Good luck, try to tune us and please send your musical requests as well as info on propagation during transmission time.

After transmission reception reports with audio files and program details are welcome.

Restoration of four of five antennas has the majority of broadcasts directly from Guam. The latest schedule of KTWR received from the station and noted the temporary broadcast from Madagascar, UAE, Uzbekistan have ceased.

Hello friends

This was a big week in our house. I installed a new Verizon Fios router, with the help of a Verizon representative on the telephone. We were FiOS (as it was capitalized back then) customers since it was introduced to our neighborhood about 15 years ago. We have used Fios for broadband and landline, but not television -- our TV is via antennas. 

Our new Fios router and plan is supposed to increase our downloads to 300 Mbps. This would be helpful given that my wife is usually working from home, our son is visiting for the week and working his aerospace engineering job from our house, and I, in retirement, am producing Shortwave Radiogram and scouring the internet for news about international broadcasting for the @kaedotcom Twitter (for now) account. That adds up to a lot of data in and out.

The people in our house using wireless devices noticed faster connections from the new router. But I, upstairs, with an ethernet connection to bring the internet to my large tower PC, large display and full-sized keyboard (I refer to this system as The Mighty Wurlitzer), noticed that things are now slow. Very slow. Like dial-up slow. Images in websites loaded about as slowly as images do on Shortwave Radiogram. That slowly! 

This made for a long night last night, as I usually audition over 100 images for the 10-12 or so that are transmitted each week on Shortwave Radiogram. URLs and links had to be clicked a few times for the desired action.

Over the weekend I will troubleshoot and configure the router, OS, and browser settings. I'm already making some progress. Eventually, I'll figure this out.

Former BBC Cyprus observations on mediumwave

 

In recent days, the former BBC relay station in Cyprus on 639 kHz has been transmitting a program in Arabic by ‘Al Arabiya FM‘ radio between the hours of 18:00 and 22:00 GMT.

It is possible that the broadcast is intended for listeners in Sudan, which is currently undergoing an attempted military coup.

I have no idea where the broadcasts come from..

The station has a relay in Saudi Arabia on FM. It is clear from the content of the news that this is a pro-Western station.

Al-Arabiya was launched in 2003 from the Media City in Dubai. Al Arabiya FM follow the latest news and developments on the Arab and international scene without delay and delay with the investigation of the truth.

Deutsche Welle resumes Arabic service

Deutsche Welle resumes Arabic service on shortwave. DW, which discontinued Arabic broadcasting on shortwave in 2009, has resumed Arabic transmissions on SE to Sudan. 

All transmissions are from Issoudun, France relay and are heard Monday to Friday only:

1230-1300 UTC - 15275 17800 kHz

1830-1900 UTC - 15275 17840 kHz

Monitoring Mongolia's longwave frequencies

I am currently watching the Novokuzhnetsk SDR with the intention of observing the Mongolian LW frequencies.

227 came on with a weak signal at 22:06 UTC before falling away two minutes later.

A short time later at 22:10, one or more of the 209 transmitters powered up. This is still visible at 22:16.

The main transmitter on 164 hasn’t shown up at all. From monitoring this particular SDR on a nightly basis for the past two weeks, the 164 seems to suffer from false-starts on power-up, as in it seems to take more than one attempt to get it online as the carrier appears and disappears several times before becoming steady.

So far I have not heard the interval music to signify the start of the day’s broadcasting. This is usually audible at around 22:06 UTC.

MNB has seen my message enquiring about the current status of the LW transmitters but for whatever reason has not replied as of yet.

I will keep observing for the next hour or so and inform you of any updates,

Argentina's AM technicical issues

 

In the last few days, several technical problems have been reported that caused the air output of some AM stations operating from the AMBA area (Area Múltiple Buenos Aires). For example, Eco Radio AM 1220 (1220 KHz) is not being reported active, the only station that owns its transmitting antenna in the territory of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

LR9 Radio Perfil (1190 KHz) is also not being heard, due to adjustments to its Transmitter Plant located on the Campus of the National University of Lomas de Zamora.

Also not heard for a few days Radio La Más Santiagueña (1160 KHz) at Gregorio de Laferrere, Partido de La Matanza; and Radio Imagen (1310 KHz) at Castelar, Partido de Moron. Also Radio Creativa (1230 kHz), with the radiating system located in Valentín Alsina, Partido de Lanús is not received; as well as the evangelical religious station Radio Zorobabel (1540 KHz) from Monte Grande, Partido de Esteban Echeverría.

Voice of Vietnam's mediumwave developments

 

Voice Of Vietnam continues the development of medium waves to increase coverage of the country, neighboring countries and maritime and island areas.

Two new transmitters went into service on January 15. These two transmitters broadcast VOV1 on 693kHz and VOV2 on 819kHz.

Transmitters are GatesAir Flexiva AM/DRM compatible semiconductors. With 2 x 200 kW, listeners from the central high plateau and surrounding regions as well as overseas Vietnamese from northeast Cambodia can easily listen to the Voice of Vietnam radio programs.

A little over a year ago, VOV had put into operation, a broadcasting station from the South Central Region, for the East Sea region and the South Central coastal provinces. The radio station is located on an area of 16 hectares, in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province. The station has a power of 400 kw and broadcasts at 1071 kHz. The transmitter is a Nautel ready to convert to DRM digital radio. Like many countries in Asia, the conversion to DRM to medium-wave and VHF is now the order of the day more than ever.

FCC opens public comments on shortwave modernization coalition

 

The FCC has opened for public comment the Petition for Rulemaking of the Shortwave Modernization Coalition.

The proposal would bring new private, non-broadcast digital stations to the high-frequency spectrum.

The Coalition members have performed HF experiments over the last several years. Favorable FCC action on the proposal would open the field to regular commercial operations.

The FCC has assigned the petition number RM-11953. Comments are due in 30 days.

Taiwan's RTI to test various frequencies in July

 

Radio Taiwan International's German service will be broadcasting this year for several days in July direct from the Tamsui transmitter in northern Taiwan, and on Saturday 24 June RTI will test different frequencies to find out the two best for Europe.

1) 11995 kHz 17:00- 17:10 UTC(same time as last year)

2) 11995 kHz 17:30- 17:40 UTC(same time as last year)

3) 9545 kHz 18:00- 18:10 UTC(new time)

4) 7240 kHz 18:20- 18:30 UTC(new time)

5) 7250 kHz 18:40- 18:50 UTC (new time)

RTI German service will broadcast direct from Tamsui at 17:00-18:00 UTC and 18:00-19:00 UTC on the following dates:

Friday 07 July, Saturday 08 July, Sunday 09 July, Friday 14 July, Saturday 15 July,  Sunday16 July, Friday 21 July, Saturday 22 July, Sunday 23 July, Friday 28 July, Saturday 29 July, Sunday 30 July

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 26 June - 02 July 2023

Solar activity was generally at R1 (Minor) levels until 02 Jul when R3 (Strong) levels were reached. Weak M-class activity was observed from Regions 3340 (N20, L=234, class/area Eki/350 on 26 Jun) on 26-28 Jun, Region 3354 (N15, L=168, class/area Fkc/1150 on 02 Jul) on 29 Jun and Region 3359 (S22, L=068, class/area Dai/060 on 02 Jul) on 01-02 Jul. Region 3354 produced an X1 flare at 02/2314 UTC. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed during the period. 

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at high levels on 27 Jun through 02 Jul with a maximum flux of 3,510 pfu observed at 28/1555 UTC. 

Geomagnetic field activity was at mostly quiet to isolated unsettled levels throughout the period. A brief interval of active levels was observed the latter half of 29 Jun due to a solar sector crossing

from a negative to a positive sector. 

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 03 July - 29 July 2023

Solar activity is expected to be at low to R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate) levels throughout the forecast period. 

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels on 03-06 Jul and 14-29 Jul due to CH HSS influence. 

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach unsettled levels on 04-05 Jul, unsettled to active levels on 09-10 Jul with G1-G2 (Minor-Moderate) levels likely on 12-13 Jul due to recurrent CH HSS

activity. Quiet to unsettled levels are expected on 14-29 Jul.
