Amateur radio special event calendar

Though not a complete listing of all amateur radio special events or broadcast, the following gives you a sample of current and future activity from the hams bands.

3B8, MAURITIUS. Armin, DK9PY, will be active as 3B8/DK9PY between July 5-21st. Activity will be CW only on 40/30/20/17/15/12/10 meters. Look for him on 10 kHz from the lower band edges. He states that he has received his license. He might make a side trip for 2 days to Reunion Island (FR) or Rodriguez Island (3B9), but he is not sure yet. He will use a FT857 /100 watts into dipoles and a longwire. He will have internet access and might announce himself on the DXcluster. No QSL info was given, but probably via his homecall.(Ohio/Penn 966)

4O, MONTENEGRO. Acim, YU1YV, will once again be active from Montenegro, possibly as 4O3A (guest operator from this station) or 4O/YU1YV, starting from July 1st. He likes 75/80m, but will be active mostly on 6, 10, 15 and 20 meters. He will also be in the IARU HF Contest (July 10-11th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry.

5V, TOGO. Franco, I1FQH, will be active as 5V7DX from Kpalime Village in central Togo between July 15–30th. Activity will will be on 20-10 meters using a Spiderbeam and on 40-30 meters using a homebrew vertical. His rig will be an ICOM 7000 w/KL500 solid state amplifier. QSL via LoTW or via his home callsign, direct (w/SASE) or by the Bureau. Franco plans to put pictures and video upon his return home on You-Tube channel.

9Q, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO. By the time you read this Patrick, ON4HIL, will be active (July 5th or 6th) using a special callsign, 9Q50ON, from Kinshasa for one week. The special callsign is to celebrate D.R.C.'s 50th anniversary of independence. Activity will be limited because he is actually on a scouting trip for a larger group of Belgian operators to activate the D.R.C. within a few months. No specific dates have been announced yet. DL1, GERMANY. Sebastian, DL1AXX, will activate rare islands for the German Island Award between August 3-9th. Using the callsign DL1AXX/p, his planned activations are: Grot Deil Island, Reference O-34 Kastenwerden Island, Reference O-37 Weidenschwanz Island, Reference O-38 Sebastian states, "I will be QRV in the late afternoon and evening on CW on 20m and 40m. EU-047. Chris, DL4FO, will be active as DL4FO/p from the Island of Spiekeroog (N-008 for the German Islands Award) between July 11-16th. Activity will be QRP only, mainly CW, on all HF bands. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the Bureau.(Ohio/Penn 966)

EU-045. Members of the newly formed "Italia Zero DX Group" will activate "L'isola di Ponza" in the Tyrrhenian Sea, between Rome and Naples, as IB0Y between August 1-8th. The international team of operators mentioned are: Giovanni/IZ0PSA, Edmondo/VA3ITA, Laura/VA3LIA and James/KB0MZ. Activity will be holiday style on 80-2 meters using
CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via IZ0PSA or LoTW. A link for live video streaming and updates is expected to be posted on http://www.qrz.com/.

EU-140. Operators Jari/OH1JO and Juha/OH1LEG will be activated Kaunissaari Island using the special callsign OH1K for 5 days (possibly 7) starting July 27th. Activity will be on the HF bands (20/15/10m) and possibly 80/40/30/17/12m. Jari states, "Icom Pro-3 and FT-1000
MK V Field will be used." QSL via OH1JO. A special QSL card will be printed after the activation. All Direct cards with 1 IRC, 1 EURO and 2 USDs will be answered as soon as the cards are printed by UX5UO. Look for updates on QRZ.com (under OK1K or OH1JO).

HA8, HUNGARY (WFF Op). Look for a youth radio camp to activate the Natural Reserves Pusztaszeri Tk.(HAFF-036) between now and July 9th. They will use the special callsign HA8KID. Other callsigns such as HA8CX/p, HA8DD/p, HA8KW/p and HA8ZE/p will also be active. Activity will be on 80-2 meters using a FT-450. Antennas are: W3DZZ for 80/40/20/15/10m, possibly a 6m vertical dipole, GP for the WARC bands and a short yagi on 2m. The instructors ask patience with the young operators. (Ohio/Penn 966)

NA-067. Jon, WB8YJF, will be active as homecall/4 from Ocracoke Island, NC (USI NC001S), between July 18-25th. Activity will be on 40/20/ 15/10 meters (and possibly 80 meters) using CW, RTTY, and SSB. Jon will also be active in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 24-25th) as a Single-Op/Low-Power. He states, "I will be taking a TA-33- Mini and a Vertical - although at this point the vertical has issues on 80m - which I hope to have rectified by then." QSL

SA-060. (Update) Operators Orlando/PT2OP and Fred/PY2XB will be active from Cotejuba Island (DIB PA-14, WLOTA L-2855, ARLHS BRA-278), Para State, Northern Brazil, between July 2­5th. Look for activity in the WLOTA Contest. Orlando, PT2OP, will sign ZX8C,
mostly on SSB. Fred, PY2XB, will signs ZX8W, mostly on CW. QSLs for are via PT7WA. QSLs for ZX8C are via PT2OP.

JW, SVALBARD. Operators Thomas/OZ1AA, Alex/OZ7AM and Ken/OZ1IKY will be active as JW/homecall from Spitsbergen (EU-026) between July 23–27th. QSL via their home callsigns. They also plan to be active from the JW5E club station in Longyearbyen during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 24-25th) as a Multi-Op entry. QSL JW5E via LA7XM.

Amateur radio special events calendar

AEGEAN VHF & 6M CONTEST 2010The Aegean DX Group announces that the AEGEAN VHF & 6m Contest will take place on July 3-4th. Many stations with special callsigns will operate from all over Greece (J4x, SX1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7x and also from all Greek islands SX5, 8, 9), as well as from all the Greek Locators (of course and KM37) and in every mode CW, SSB, FM, RTTY, SSTV, PSK etc. It will be a great opportunity for every radio amateur to get a QSL cards from Greek stations on VHF & 6m band for their VHF or 6m Awards or to simply to confirm Greece on VHF & 6m. The Contest will be held according to the IARU Band Plan of Region-1 on 50, 144, 432 MHz. There will be not any QSOs in FM modulation on 50 MHz because it is restricted by the Greek authorities. CR3, MADEIRA ISLANDS. Jose, CT1BOH, will be active as CR3E from Madeira Island (IOTA AF-014, Grid IM12JU, ITU Zone 36) during the 2010 IARU HF World Championship Contest (July 10-11th). QSL via W3HNK. Visit his contest page at: http://www.qsl.net/ct1boh

E2/HS, THAILAND (6 meters!). Champ, E21EIC, informs OPDX that Thai hams just received a temporary license for 6 meters (50-54MHz) for CQ WW VHF Contest from NTC (National Telecommunications Commission). They will allow them to operate 2 days between July 17-18th, 2010 (July 18-19th, 2010 Thailand time) which support from RAST by John/HS1CHB and Champ/ E21EIC. Champs states that no operations on 6 meters have ever been allowed for 30 years since previous RAST Founder Gen.Kamchai Chotikul or Kam, HS1WR (SK). However, the last 6 meters operation did take place during the 1992 SEANET convention in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Champ states, "This is very good news for all Thai Hams to have the opportunity to
operate 6m. We all hope that the NTC will continue to authorize Thai Hams to operate 6 meters -- hopefully as for permanent license."

GJ, JERSEY (EU-013). Contest: YL Elena, RV3ACA, will be active as GJ2A or GJ/OH8CA during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 24-25th) as a Single-Op/SSB or Mixed entry. She will be active outside of the contest between July 21-26th. QSL via RV3ACA.

9A - Zik, VE3ZIK (DO7ZZ) will be once again active as as 9A/VE3ZIK from Bilice, Croatia between 1 July and 27 September. Several side trips to islands in the IOTA group EU-170 are being planned, including an activity during the IOTA Contest. F - Special event station TM5RDL will be active on all bands and modes on 10-18 July to celebrate National Day (14 July) and Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle, the author of the French national anthem. The special QSL cards will be sponsored by the city of Lons-le-Saunier, where where Rouget de Lisle was born 250 years ago. QSL via F5SJB. [TNX F5SJB]

IOTA NEWS
EU-011. Members of the Cray Valley Radio Society team will once again activate St. Mary's Island in the Isles of Scilly during the IOTA Contest (July 24-25th). The team will be there between July 20-26th. In the past the team has operated on all HF bands prior to the contest using their callsigns/P. During the contest they will be active as M8C and after until they leave
the Islands under their own callsigns. QSL via G4DFI, the QSL Manager of M8C and the Club callsign.

Amateur Radio special events calendar


Nov. 6-9
GD - Tom, GM4FDM and Ronald, PA3EWP will be active as GD4FDM and MD/PA3EWP from the Isle of Man (EU-116) on 6-9 November. They will concentrate on the low bands CW, and Tom will do some RTTY as well. QSL GD4FDM via GM4FDM, QSL MD/PA3EWP via PA7FM. [TNX The Daily DX]

Nov. 6-Dec. 6
FK/C - The TX3A license for the Chesterfield DXpedition [425DXN 962] has been extended, and AA7JV and HA7RY will be able to use that callsign from 2 November until 6 December. George and Tomi left Gladstone (Queensland) on 26 October and reached Suamarez Reef the day after. They had to stop there to wait for the weather to improve; hopefully the voyage will be resumed on Saturday with TX3A being expected to be QRV by 3 November in the local evening hours. QSL via HA7RY. Nov. 6-15
VP2M - Tom/DL2RUM (VP2MUM), Rudi/DM2XO (VP2MXO) and Jan/DJ8NK (VP2MNK) will be active from Montserrat (NA-103) on 3-15 November. They will operate CW, SSB and RTTY on 160-10 metres. QSL via home calls, direct or bureau. [TNX OPDX Bulletin]

Nov. 6-17
XV - Manfred/DK1BT, Wolf/DL4WK, Andy/DL5CW, Sigi/DL7DF and Frank/DL7UFR will be active as XV4D from Phu Quoc (AS-128), Vietnam on 4-17 November. They will operate on 160-10 metres with two stations for CW and SSB, and a third station for RTTY, PSK31 and SSTV. Bernd, DF3CB will be the pilot for the expedition. QSL via DL7DF, direct or bureau.

Nov. 7-8

Nov. 9 - Dec. 10
SM - Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in physiscs awarded to Guglielmo Marconi, eight special callsigns (SI0GM, SI1GM, SI2GM, SI3GM, SI4GM, SI5GM, SI6GM and SI7GM) will be aired from Sweden between 9 November and 10 December. Nov. 19-23
PY - Fred, PY2XB and Alex, PY2WAS will be active as PW2IO and PW2TA respectively from Cabras Island (SA-071) on 19-23 November. They will operate SSB and CW with two separate stations, mainly on 15, 17, 20, 30 and 40 metres. Landing on the island is difficult and the operation may be postponed in case of bad weather. Nov. 21-22
Mongolian DX Contest - The Mongolian Amateur Radio Society (MARS) invites licensed amateurs and SWLs to participate in the Mongolian DX Contest, to be held on 160-10 metres CW, SSB and RTTY on 21-22 November (from 00.00 UTC on Saturday through 23.59 UTC on Sunday). T8 - Pista, HA5AO will be active as T88CI from Koror (OC-009), Palau between 25 November and 10 December.
