Caribbean variety is the Spice of this host's life

The fact there are about 25 pirate radio stations in Brooklyn playing Caribbean music, says Bob Frederick, should tell somebody there's a market in this city for that music.
But no commercial station plays Caribbean full time, so Frederick, "The Spice Man" on WLIB for more than 13 years, is trying again to move into the void.
"Spice Radio," which provides music and information to the Caribbean community, is now running 10 a.m.-midnight Saturdays and Sundays on WSNR (620 AM).
Musically, says Frederick, "We play all styles of Caribbean music, plus a little classic soul. On most stations, if the host is from Trinidad, they play calypso. If the host is Jamaican, they only play reggae. We tie it together" with artists from Bob Marley to the Mighty Sparrow.
