China releases grant to revitalize Liberia Broadcasting System

The Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Lin Sontian, has signed a contractual agreement of US$3.75 million for the revitalization of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS). The signing ceremony was witnessed by Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Lin Sontian, Liberia Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, William Bull and LBS Board Chairman, Johnny McClain.

Speaking at the ceremony Chinese Ambassador said his country was committed to assisting Liberia overcoming some of its infrastructure development problems, including the LBS which, he said, when revitalized will be able to cover the entire country with its broadcast services.

The Liberia Broadcasting System was badly damaged during the heat of the Liberian civil war; its shortwave and television are at the moment nonfunctioning. Its current broadcast facilities (FM) can hardly reach beyond Totota in Bong County.
