KBS World has new transmitter on Ascension Island

 

Dear friends,

From June 1, 2024, you'll be able to receive us on 9 765 kHz between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. (GMT).

We hope that our new transmitter on Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean will enable our listeners in Africa to receive us in better conditions.

Before the big change, we'll be carrying out a small test on May 20 and 21. So don't miss out, and let us know your reactions so that we can adapt as quickly as possible to any problems that may arise.

KBS World Radio announces program cancellations

Cancellation of Programs

We have recently learned that, unfortunately, one of the team members at KBS WORLD Radio's English Service has tested positive for COVID-19.

In order to prevent the spread of infection, KBS WORLD Radio has taken the preemptive measure of suspending all production of the programs Korea24 and K-POP Connection.

Korea24: From December 28 to December 31, Korea24 will be replaced by reruns of previous KBS WORLD Radio special programs. On January 1, a special program marking the new year will be broadcast. Regular Korea24 programming will resume on January 4, 2021.

K-POP Connection: K-POP Connection will air reruns of previous episodes from December 29, 2020, to January 7, 2021, except for January 1, when a pre-recorded new-year special episode will air. Regular programming to resume on January 8, 2021.

The English Service is striving for the safe and quick normalization of all production. We ask for our listeners' understanding of this inconvenience.

Special DRM shortwave transmissions are being planned for the special meeting of HFCC to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 26-29 August. They will be broadcast by Encompass Digital Media Services

1600-1700 UTC on 21630 kHz from Ascension Island Bearing 245°. On each of the four days the content will be supplied by a different broadcaster:
• Monday – BBC World Service English
• Tuesday – KBS (Korean) in Spanish
• Wednesday – NHK (Japan) in Spanish
• Thursday – TWR (Trans World Radio) in Spanish (St. John DRM North America Group)
