Qatar Foundation is expected to launch some time in the next month. Although no definite date has been set for the first “on-air day” of the radio station, an official said that whilst online services were currently working, bandwidth services should be up and running in October.
She said the Qatar Foundation (QF) station would also launch a new website in the coming month. The new site would include a large amount of downloadable material, including music, videos, news and other programmes produced by QF Radio. “There will be nothing else like it in Qatar,” she claimed. “This is going to be something really new and exciting. Not only will it be a great resource for local people and those living in Qatar, it will also provide a bit of context about the country for an international audience.”
The station has already provided potential listeners with a taste of what they will be broadcasting when they do go on air, promising to be “the official voice of Qatar Foundation”. Its schedule contains a range of current affairs and news programmes, whilst others feature QF students chatting about the day’s issues or other general topics. And they will broadcast news in 60 second bulletins throughout the day.
The newest show, and one QF Radio’s flagship programmes, is Campus Buzz, which is “created by students, for students and for youth across Qatar and the world”. The first Campus Buzz programme is set to be broadcast online in the coming weeks, and this will be followed on the airwaves when the radio station is fully launched.
