Checkerboard Lounge program ready for the blues

Ask any blues aficionado about the Checkboard Lounge, and you're likely to hear of the legends that once graced the original stage in Bronzeville, the Chicago mecca of blues to play Sweet Home Chicago and The Thrill is Gone. While Buddy Guy may never grace the old stage again, (it has relocated to Hyde-Park) blues fans can relive the legends.

From Roscoe, the bartender of the Checkerboard Lounge, comes word of an new and upcoming weekly radio event blog readers, blues fans and shortwave radio enthusiasts should not miss!

Mark your calendars, turn off the phones and forget about tonight's classic movie ... it's time to soak up the blues!

The Checkerboard Lounge, a new weekly blues music show, will premier Sunday, June 3, at 2200 UTC on 7415 kHz on WBCQ.

The first show will feature the music of Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, Junior Wells, Jelly Roll Morton, and Mr. E.C. himself ... Eric Clapton.

The Checkboard Lounge welcomes all blog readers to tune in and enjoy the blues, and become Official Checkerboard Lounge Lizzards.

Reception reports are welcomed, and yes Roscoe plans to QSL. One hundred QSL cards have been printed for the first to report, so do not delay. After that, the design will be changed and the print run will be much larger.

To verify the program, send in your reception report, including the usual date, frequency, time, radio conditions (fading, interferences, reception quality) as well as music titles played. Listeners in the USA need to include a self addressed stamped envelope. Listeners outside the USA need to include a self addressed envelope and 2 IRC's (International Reply Coupons).

Roscoe says, "I have a feeling that the QSLs will go fast since The Checkerboard Lounge airs immediately following This Week in Amateur Radio."
