Belize's Lighthouse Christian Radio braces for Hurricane Felix

AMBERGRIS CAYE, BELIZE — It is now two weeks since Hurricane Dean made landfall in the Yucatan, just north of Belize. The Northern Districts of Orange Walk and Corozal in Belize were affected as homes and large potions of the papaya industry were destroyed.

According to Clive Welsh, a native missionary to Belize with Saving Grace World Mission, San Pedro Town, and Ambergris Caye where Lighthouse Christian Radio is located, experienced little damage. Flooding occurred in some areas, there were uprooted trees and some pier damage, he said.

Welsh, who runs Lighthouse Christian Radio on the island of Ambergris Caye, says Dennis Requena, station manager, chose to weather the hurricane on the Island and housed several families in the Lighthouse Apartments.

« We were off the air for a period of 24 hours before electricity was restored. We thank the Lord for His protection and grateful for the limited damaged, » Welsh reported.
