Station fears digital AM will force some to tune out signal

September 4, 2007) — WYSL-AM (1040) fills its broadcasting day with local headlines, sports coverage and the insights of syndicated talk show hosts such as Bill O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham.
But the Avon radio station is worried that its nighttime airwaves may soon be filled with static.Starting Sept. 14, the Federal Communications Commission will allow AM stations to begin broadcasting digital AM signals at night. And numerous stations are waiting to see if, as they fear, those digital signals begin interfering with their analog signals.
"How bad is it going to be? The truth is nobody knows," said WYSL President and CEO Robert C. Savage.
