Update on Myanmar's Thazin Radio

 

Myanmar - Thazin Radio has been silent on shortwave since April 7, 2024.

It seems shortwave transmitter Pyin Oo Lwin is having a bit of trouble. However, I caught them tuning in on 639 kHz just now, at 13:00 UTC, mingling with a Thai station. Thazin Radio is part of the Myawaddy Communication Center and is owned by the military in Myanmar. It's financed by Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL), which is a conglomerate owned by the military.

Myanmar - Thazin Radio from Pyin Oo Lwin site on 7345 kHz.

12.40 past 13.15 UT in vernacular. Lots of popular songs. Am I the only listener noticed improved signals from Thazin Radio. Has this station operated by Tatmadaw, upgraded its tramsmitter out put and the antenna system?

Pyin Oo Lwin of Myawaddy Radio center built in 2007 to 2008 years, some 208 far away kilometers north of new capital Nay Pyi Daw. Location is at  22 00 57.41 N  96 33 00.48 E or 22.01741925751829 N  96.55174262265729 E  northerly point in Myanmar.

Thazin Radio from Pyin Oo Lwin. I don't know the reason why Japanese Aoki Nagoya group circle recently put the 208 kilometers distant location - capital name - Nay Pyi Daw on their SW frequency database - for a year now, i.e. 6165, 7345, and 9590 kHz requested channels ?

Thazin Radio from Pyin Oo Lwin noted on 6165 kHz. The morning transmission of Thazin Radio was observed on 6165 kHz at 01:30 UTC, in a vernacular language. Whilst during the daytime, Thazin Radio can be heard on 9590 kHz.

Myanmar Radio, 5985 kHz at 1530. (Feb 2). Fair signal with intro to segment in English, noted as, “Good evening dear listeners. This is Myanmar Radio. We are broadcasting our final transmission for today, radiating on 5985 kHz, 0.13 meters, 576 kHz., 520 meters and 594 kHz, 505 meters. Now you can hear the news and weather news.” "Music from around the world” at 1543. Very enjoyable reception today.

Certainly one of their better days. Noted on 5985 kHz,  Myanmar Radio on Feb. 1, underneath a strong NHK-Japan, with sign on at 1129, with indigenous theme music (with NHK-Japan 1130 sign-off).

At 1130 announcer in vernacular. Myanmar Radio on 5985 kHz at 1559-1604, Feb 13. The Wednesday only edition of “VOA Special English,” with “huge rocks from outer space, or asteroids, are falling from the sky more than they have in the past.” Five minute show with good signal, so able to still hear program even after the China Radio International sign on at 1559.

The former Voice of America time slot for this show (1540+) is now all music programs, and noted today with songs from movies.

Frequently changing transmitter here! On Dec 25 heard Naypyidaw on 5985.00. (Howard). Heard on remote unit in Sri Lanka at 1147, Dec 28, singer group on air. Strength only S=8-9. (Bueschel).

Also heard on 5985.87, 1527-1530, Dec 24. Traditional Burmese music, 1530 into English with ID, frequencies (announced 5985 kHz), and then news, 43343, somewhat muffled audio. (Sellers)

6164.99, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, 1022-1141, Dec 28. Nice girl singing, S=7-8 signal improving to S=9+20dB noted on SDR remote unit in Colombo. (Bueschel). Also heard at 1430, Dec 24 and Jan 04, English, introductory music and then woman with “good evening” greeting. Station ID, frequencies and English pop song. At 1435:30 woman back and into news and weather, 1442 song “Last Christmas” by George Michael and WHAM! SINPO 33433, QRM from CNR6. (Sellers)

7200.103, Myanma Radio, Yegu, Yangon, 1008, Dec 27. Quick check found them fair. (Howard). Also heard at 1026-1210, Dec 28, S=8-9 fluttery signal improving to S=9+15dB in Sri Lanka. At 1030 no ±15 kHz spurs either side this time ! But at 1210 also observed the two accompanied spurious on exact ±14249 Hertz away either side, stronger on 7185.854, but also on 7214.353 next to CRI Russian powerhouse. (Bueschel)

9459.90, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, 0438, Dec 28. Burmese heard at proper S=9 signal level on remote unit on Sri Lanka. Modern pop music with local South Asian tone flavor.  (Bueschel)

9590.0, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, *0430, Dec 28. Strong carrier, start of typical Burmese national domestic program in Lhao, a lot of xylophone music. Signal S=8-9. Also noted a few seconds on air by probably technical check of the engineer at 1011, on remote receiver unit in Sri Lanka. (Bueschel)

9730.80v, Myanma Radio, Yegu, Yangon, 1010, Dec 27. Heard with slight drift. A check at 1103 found they had switched transmitter to Nay Pyi Taw on exactly 9730.00. Really in a state of flux! (Howard). Also heard on 9730.82 on remote post in Sri Lanka, at 0425, Dec 28. Dance music box and nice Burmese girl singer, fair level S=8-9. Also heard at 1005, Dec 28, with music phone-in program, S=9+10dB signal noted on SDR remote unit in Colombo. (Bueschel)

Thazin Radio monitoring

7110 kHz {usually 9 hertz lower} Thazin Radio in English, at 1430- 1500* UTC on Monday, September 3. Theme music, in English which sounded like the different and unique intro used during the Burmese New Year Water Festival (Thingyan), hence must be a rebroadcast. Intro going something like this:

"good evening ... listeners. This is Thazin Radio, Pyin Oo Lwin. Welcome to our evening English transmission radiating on 639 kilohertz and 7 point 11 megahertz. I wish you a happy Thingyan and I hope you all are in excellent health, wealth and happiness."

Easy-listening music followed by: "good evening our dear listeners. May I present for you some sweet melodies for tonight." Pop songs then presented a program titled "Myanmar Festivals", a weekly Monday show. Informative program about the Phaung-daw-oo Festival "held yearly during the eighteen day period from first waxing of the Thadingyut [the seventh month on the Burmese calendar] to the third waning of the Thadingyut", during which Buddha images made of gold are rowed around Inle Lake+ in Shan State. The highlight is when the images arrive at the town of Nyaung Shwe.
