What is in the February MT shortwave columns ?

Time for a brief review of what is being featured for my shortwave columns in the February issue of Monitoring Times.

With January's focus on LOWfers and MEDfers, for February, it's time to take a look at low-powered beacons, known as Non-Directional Beacons. Next time you tune down around 190-535 kHz, and hear morse code, you have what is known in the hobby as an NDB. Read more to delve into how propagation plays a key role in tuning to beacons, and the secrets of QSLing your beacon catch.

QSL Report contributors share their verifications from stations representing Amateur Radio, Clandestines, Germany, Latvia, Medium Wave, Pirates and Sri Lanka. For shortwave logs, check out the Broadcast Logs column with logs beginning with All India Radio at 0025 UC to a selection of Peruvians at 2335 UTC. February's logs will keep you busy at the dials for hours.

Don't forget the center Shortwave Guide for the latest English worldwide shortwave and DRM by-hour frequencies. Frequencies are revised monthly, and remain the most current source for shortwave frequencies. To learn more about Monitoring Times, please refer to our homepage at

Time to prop up your feet and enjoy MT's February issue !
