The BBC has confirmed that the first tests of DRM on mediumwave for a UK domestic audience will commence on 23 April. 100 volunteers have signed up to participate in the year-long trial, which will broadcast BBC Radio Devon in DRM mode to the Plymouth area on its assigned frequency of 855 kHz. The AM transmitter previously operating on that frequency has already been switched off. The BBC says that teams of engineers are out in Plymouth and West Devon measuring background noise on the frequency while there are no BBC transmissions. The results of the DRM tests will be published in summer 2008.
