Kuala Lumpur launches first all-news Radio24

KUALA LUMPUR: Radio24, the first all-news radio station, was launched yesterday.

Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said that the Bernama-run station would play an important role in providing current news to the public “who crave information”.

“The Information Ministry is giving full support to this endeavour, fully aware that times have changed and the dissemination of information via radio and television is no longer monopolised by the public broadcaster,” he said when launching the station yesterday.

Radio24 began transmission at 6am today on 93.9fm. For the first phase, it will be available only in the Klang Valley.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi congratulated Radio24, saying the move was consistent with the Government’s aspiration of building a knowledgeable society.
