THOMSON Radio News Autumn 2006

The Thomson broadcast antenna teams not only design and install new
antenna systems, but are also well known for the expert maintenance and
servicing of existing equipment. Recently they were awarded with two
comprehensive maintenance contracts for the renewal and modernization of
various complex systems.

Deutsche Welle has awarded Thomson for the maintenance, renewal and
modernization of SW antenna systems at various stns. All works are
scheduled to be completed in 2006 to 2007, depending on the weather
conditions at the different sites.

Some of the 14 curtain antennas and 5 quadrant antennas at the Kigali
Station have been standing since more than 15 years without maintenance.
The last routine inspection showed that various components are in need of
servicing.

The scope of works at the Sines and Trincomalee Stations includes
maintenance and modernization with the goal of bringing all systems up to
stateof-the-art status.

The east-west three SW antenna at Trincomalee Station has been in sce
since 8 years. Thomson will modernize the antenna support systems.
Sines, situated on the coast of Portugal, boasts a total of 3 rotatable
antenna systems. The last check showed that due to the proximity to the
aggressive coastal ambient conditions, certain components show damage from
corrosion. Thomson will be putting these parts back into good condition.

The Public Building Administration of Ems-Weser (Germany) contracted
Thomson Broadcast for the maintenance of the antennas installed at the
Ramsloh Station. Scope of work includes the repair of the 110 kV and 220
kV insulators in the top load ropes. The Ramsloh stn is equipped with a
total of 8 guyed long wave masts, each with a height of approximately
380m. Thomson has been entrusted with their maintenance since years.

Ramsloh is the German Marine radio transmitter for communication with
submarines worldwide up to 30 meters water depth.
