Radio Netherlands Program Guide-Dec 12-18

Welcome to our weekly guide to Radio Netherlands Worldwide's English Service - a list of the new programmes coming up on Radio Netherlands Worldwide this week, beginning on Saturday.
SATURDAY 12 DECEMBER
*** The State We're In ***

Stopping Shell: Retired head mistress Maura Harrington should be taking it easy in idyllic County Mayo, Ireland. But she went on a hunger strike to stop Shell Oil from laying a high pressure gas pipe. She tells host Jonathan Groubert why she was willing to put her life on the line to stop Shell.

Shell responds: Shell spokesman John Egan admits the company communicated poorly to the locals and gaining their trust will not be easy. But he also says Maura is dead wrong and is unwilling to meet him.

In his sights: Kate Brennan will never forget the day she met the man in the blue silk shirt and linen pants at a party. He was charming, interesting and a little different to the other men there. Their subsequent relationship lasted three years. Fifteen years later he's still making her pay for her decision to walk out on him. 'Stalked' is the name of her book describing her torment at the hands of a man who's determined that she doesn't forget him.

Sexy statistics: Jonathan interviews Dr Hans Rosling, the head of Gapminder.org. Dr Rosling shows movers and shakers around the globe his "fact-based" view of the world and challenges them to "make their mindset match his dataset". He Trendalyzer software graphically shows how the world has changed in the last 200 years, often with startling results.
