"A Pitcher from Arelate" by Hella Haasse is featured on this week's "Radiobooks".
Hella Haasse is perhaps the best known Dutch author in the world. Primarily known for writing historical fiction, her work has been translated into numerous languages. Her story for Radio Books is set in the ancient Roman town of Arelate – now known as Arles. A shepherdess journeys to the new town in search of the father of her new-born son.

"UN and Africa" is a weekly, 15-minute radio programme that aims to cover topical and current affairs-related stories about what the UN is doing for Africa, in Africa and about Africa.
On the programme this week: The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD, has just released its annual report highlighting new forms of partnerships between Africa and other developing countries, or what is commonly referred to nowadays as "South-South cooperation". This programme highlights the key messages contained in the report.
HIV and AIDS affects people at all levels of society, but it also has a profound impact on workers and their families, enterprises, employers, and national economies. Because it is a workplace issue, the International Labour Organization, ILO, has reinforced its Code of Practice on HIV and AIDS by adopting a new international standard. In this report, African employers and employees give their views.
A new court in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa has just opened to try piracy suspects. Alan Cole from the Counter-Piracy Programme at the regional office of the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which supported establishment of the courtroom at Shiwo la Tewa prison, talks about this new court.
