Radio Prague International Celebrates 90 Years

Radio Prague International will celebrate its 90th anniversary on August 31, marking nine decades of international broadcasting. As part of the celebration, the station plans to air a special program featuring comments and greetings from listeners around the world. Radio Prague International is part of Czech Radio, which celebrated its own 100th anniversary in 2023.

To commemorate the occasion, the station has released a new series of 10 special QSL cards, honoring its 90-year history. A look at the anniversary cards is available here:

Listeners can also enjoy an eight-part audio series exploring the history of Radio Prague and its role through the years in both Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The series is available online and through most podcast platforms:

Over the years, Radio Prague's QSL cards have featured everything from transmitters and broadcasting equipment to scenic views of Czech cities and countryside, as well as notable Czech personalities. The station's 40th anniversary QSL card, issued in 1976, remains a favorite among many collectors.

While Radio Prague International no longer operates its own shortwave transmitters, listeners can still hear its broadcasts on shortwave via WRMI, as well as through the World Radio Network and online streaming services.
