The operation of the Avlida short broadcast center took a second extension. Following a suggestion by the General Director of Technology and Media Operation of ERT, but also a request from the Ministry of Defense , the Voice of Greece will continue to broadcast proportionally at least until June 15, when "the conditions will be re-evaluated".

At the same time, with another decision, ERT concluded an agreement with OTE Sat Maritel , a subsidiary of the OTE group concerning telecommunications in shipping, for the transmission of a six -hour program by the Voice of Greece "in order to improve access to information and entertainment for Greeks Sailors " .

Voice of Greece granted a reprieve - still broadcasting!

The closure of the analog broadcast of the Voice of Greece has been delayed, even temporarily. With a decision taken last Wednesday and signed by ERT CEO George Gabritsos, the public radio and television announced that at the request of the Ministry of Defense, the Avlida shortwave broadcast center will remain active until May 31, when re-evaluating the conditions for the further continuation or not of its operation.

In an earlier decision, ERT had stated that its broadcast on shortwave would end yesterday, March 31, and had addressed the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense "to decide whether they want the continuation of the shortwave broadcasts, as well as the acquisition of ownership and the operation of the shortwave operation at their own risk " .

To further confirm this story, on April 1, Costas Krallis SV1XV, heard the Voice of Greece with the broadcast of an Eastern Orthodox Mass on 9935 kHz at 1655 UTC.

The ERT CEO Giorgos Gambritsos, has signed a decree to close down the shortwave transmitting facility at Avlis from March 31, 2022. The news release by ERT is leaving the possibility of shortwave broadcasts to continue only if the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Ministry decide to oversee the continuation of broadcasts on shortwave. The current schedule of Voice of Greece: v1800-0805 on 9420 AVL 150 kW / 323 deg to WeEu Greek, but not daily, and 0805-1200 is heard very rarely.

Until March 31, 2022, ERT's international programming will continue to operate on shortwave, according to a decision signed by ERT CEO George Gabritsos.

The government of Macedonia has struck an agreement with Greece to change the country’s name, bringing an end to a long-running dispute between the two nations.

Greece has long objected to the use of the name Macedonia because it was shared by the ancient Greek kingdom ruled by Alexander of Macedon, and is also used by an adjacent Greek region.

As a result of Greece’s objections Macedonia was only admitted to the UN under the provisional name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia after it gained its independence in 1991 from the break-up of Yugoslavia.


Under the deal the country’s name would be changed to the Republic of Northern Macedonia, to reflect the existence of the Greek region of Macedonia on the other side of the border and the cultural claim Greeks see over it
