WBCQ acquires World Harvest Radio

Family Broadcasting Corporation is selling shortwave Christian “World Harvest Radio” WHRI Furman, South Carolina, to Allan Weiner for $1.25 million. Weiner also owns shortwave Talk “The Planet” WBCQ Monticello , Maine, as well as Talk/Rock 780 WXME/98.3 W252DW and Classic Country “Kixx 94.7” WBCQ-FM Monticello.

The seller owns multiple Christian television stations as well as Christian AC “Pulse-FM” 103.1 WHME South Bend IN, 96.9 WHPZ Bremen IN, and 92.1 WHPD Dowagiac MI.

Fifth Estate Broadcasting donates Full Service AAA “102.9 The Mater” 1430 WHAN/102.9 W275BQ Ashland VA to Stu-Comm Inc. WHAN, which serves the northern portions of the Richmond market, will join Stu-Comm’s AAA WNRN network joining 1590 WFTH/88.5 W203CB/103.1 W276BZ Richmond..

WHRI to expand Caribbean, Central, and Sourth American service

US religious broadcaster World Harvest Radio is installing a sixth transmitter at WHRI, its shortwave station in South Carolina. The plan is to send more programming into the Caribbean, Central and South America. The transmitter is already on site. The costs of installation are around $100,000. Once on the air, the cost of operation is estimated to be around $10,000 per month or about $120,000 for the first year.

Korean Cultural Programming on shortwave

The World Harvest Radio website calls the program on KWHR 9930 at 1300 Monday-Friday simply “Korean Cultural Programming”. Aoki lists it as Radio Free North Korea, while the February 4 WRTH update lists both Radio Free North Korea and Open Radio for North Korea for that time and frequency. 1300 is still a little too early for good KWHR reception at my location so, despite listening several times, I haven’t been able to catch an ID. Does anyone know which program it is now? The Korean program previously listed for 1100 was replaced by a program in English some time ago.
