First Reception Report From India
Way
back nearly forty years ago, Jose Jacob VU2JOS in India tuned his radio to the
tropical shortwave frequency 3925 kHz, and he heard a broadcast from NBC, the
National Broadcasting Commission in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The callsign for this transmitter at the time
was P2K3, the power was 10 kW, and the time of reception in India was 6:00 pm
on October 25, 1976.
The QSL card issued by NBC Port
Moresby in those days showed a yellow map of Papua New Guinea together with its
surrounding islands, and the location of each of the NBC stations is shown on
the map. A typewritten note on the card
acknowledges that the reception report they received from Jose Jacob was the
very first from India.
