5985.84, Myanma Radio, Yegu. Yangon, not on air at 1030. (Bueschel). But heard at *1129, Dec 27, open carrier at 1127. On with indigenous theme music in vernacular. Frequently changing transmitter here! On Dec 25 heard Naypyidaw on 5985.00. (Howard). Heard on remote unit in Sri Lanka at 1147, Dec 28, singer group on air. Strength only S=8-9. (Bueschel).

Also heard on 5985.87, 1527-1530, Dec 24. Traditional Burmese music, 1530 into English with ID, frequencies (announced 5985 kHz), and then news, 43343, somewhat muffled audio. (Sellers)

6164.99, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, 1022-1141, Dec 28. Nice girl singing, S=7-8 signal improving to S=9+20dB noted on SDR remote unit in Colombo. (Bueschel). Also heard at 1430, Dec 24 and Jan 04, English, introductory music and then woman with “good evening” greeting. Station ID, frequencies and English pop song. At 1435:30 woman back and into news and weather, 1442 song “Last Christmas” by George Michael and WHAM! SINPO 33433, QRM from CNR6. (Sellers)

7200.103, Myanma Radio, Yegu, Yangon, 1008, Dec 27. Quick check found them fair. (Howard). Also heard at 1026-1210, Dec 28, S=8-9 fluttery signal improving to S=9+15dB in Sri Lanka. At 1030 no ±15 kHz spurs either side this time ! But at 1210 also observed the two accompanied spurious on exact ±14249 Hertz away either side, stronger on 7185.854, but also on 7214.353 next to CRI Russian powerhouse. (Bueschel)

7345.0, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, 1025-1204, Dec 28. Local girl in scheduled Kachin language. S=9+15dB signal improving to S=9+20dB noted on remote receiver in Sri Lanka. (Bueschel)

9459.90, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, 0438, Dec 28. Burmese heard at proper S=9 signal level on remote unit on Sri Lanka. Modern pop music with local South Asian tone flavor.  (Bueschel)

9590.0, Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin, *0430, Dec 28. Strong carrier, start of typical Burmese national domestic program in Lhao, a lot of xylophone music. Signal S=8-9. Also noted a few seconds on air by probably technical check of the engineer at 1011, on remote receiver unit in Sri Lanka. (Bueschel)

9730.80v, Myanma Radio, Yegu, Yangon, 1010, Dec 27. Heard with slight drift. A check at 1103 found they had switched transmitter to Nay Pyi Taw on exactly 9730.00. Really in a state of flux! (Howard). Also heard on 9730.82 on remote post in Sri Lanka, at 0425, Dec 28. Dance music box and nice Burmese girl singer, fair level S=8-9. Also heard at 1005, Dec 28, with music phone-in program, S=9+10dB signal noted on SDR remote unit in Colombo. (Bueschel)

Myanmar begins new minority language program

Station ID in Bamar given as: "Rakhine Athan Lwin Thana ma athan lwin ne baday, yakhu achien ga sa bi thayinda asisingo set la athan klwin ba may shin ", (we are broadcasting from Rakhine Broadcasting Station, from now you will listen our minority language program"). According to station announcement in Bamar this morning (Feb 07), they started broadcasting minority language program three times daily:

7110, Myanma Radio, Nay Pyi Taw, *2330-0130, Feb 08 and 11. Vernacular announcement, station ID "Rakhine Atan ..." and always lots of music. SINPO 45544 in Sri Lanka, SINPO 24332 in Austria. (Goonetilleke and Robic). Also heard at 1030-1430, Feb 08, 09 and 11. Vernaculars, local pop music, SINPO 45544 in Sri Lanka, weak but readable in USA. 7345, Myanma Radio, Nay Pyi Taw (presumed), 1030-1330*, Feb 07, 08, 09 and 11. Burmese dialects, spots of music with few announcements in vernaculars. Sign off with repeat of two gongs plus drum, SINPO 34433 in Sri Lanka, SINPO 24132 in Denmark. CNR 1 heard in Chinese weaker on 7345 at 1330-1405 // 6030. (Goonetilleke and Petersen). This must be the new minority language program ”Rakhine Broadcasting Station.” According to the Danish Newspaper Jyllandsposten in a report from Yangon Feb 10, all Burmese journalists still have to get their articles censured before publishing, if allowed at all. This cannot be a new, independent station, but a new program from Myanma Radio. (Ed)

Myanmar monitoring update

Thanks to Ron Howard for sending in his latest observations while monitoring Myanmar.

Myanmar
5985.0, Myanma Radio, 1231 UTC, May 3. They have returned to being on the exact frequency (ex: 5985.76v); assume this is the Naypyidaw transmitter. Normal Myanmar reception noted on 5915 and 7185.75v. They were not on 6035, where I heard Vietnamese via PBS Yunnan, along with a very weak (unusable) station underneath (probably Bhutan). Hard to keep up with all the Myanmar changes! (Ron Howard, Asilomar Beach, CA, Etón E1)

6035, Myanma Radio, 1208-1337 UTC, May 1. In vernacular with music program till the start of the Minorities and Distance Learning Services lectures at 1330; // 5915. Was able to occasionally hear Vietnamese (PBS Yunnan) underneath, so the real loser here is Bhutan! Yesterday Myanmar was not here during this time period.

So they seriously want to use this frequency! Heard FOUR transmitters on the air at the same time (5915, 5985.76v, 6035 and 7185.75v). Back in mid-March the Naypyidaw transmitter was pulled from service on 5985.0 and replaced with the off frequency Yangon transmitter. Perhaps the 6035 transmitter is the one at Naypyidaw, formerly on 5985.0?

Myanma Radio monitoring

7185.75v, Myanma Radio, randomly from 1308 to 1530 UTC sign-off, Feb 15. Interesting developments! Heard with two different Myanmar audio feeds, one was weak and clearly // 5985, while the other one was at a fair level and not // to 5915. Both in vernacular with indigenous songs.

So Myanmar is clearly still on 5915, but they simply have an earlier sign off time now (sometime shortly after 1500), which mislead me to think they were off the air. By 1343 a heavy noise was heard blocking 5915 reception, which was the N. Korean jammer intended for the start of Shiokaze on 5910 at 1400, but Shiokaze today fooled them and started their half hour program up on 5985, where they caused heavy interference for Myanmar.

At 1529 noted sign off announcement with frequencies, followed by indigenous instrumental music. After the end of the music I could faintly hear the start of the English segment usually heard on 5985, "good evening dear listeners, this is Naypyidaw Myanma Radio" and then off the air. Mauno Ritola (Finland) today noted that 5985 signed off at 1500, something I had missed, but their programming did continue on 7185.75v. Frequency definitely slightly higher than my Feb 13 reception and heard with a slight drift (Ron Howard, Asilomar Beach, CA)

7185.70, Myanma Radio, 1444-1530*, Feb 13, ex:5915. Vernacular with easy-listening indigenous songs. Signal almost fair, 1528 sign off announcement with frequencies, followed by indigenous instrumental music till off the air. Not // 5985. Myanmar not heard on 5915 or 9730.8v, even though this frequency will cause new interference for amateur radio operators, it is infinitely better than former 5915, which had strong China Radio Int'l interference. More people should now be able to hear and enjoy this station here! Seeing as the frequency is off set, perhaps it is via Yangon and not Naypyidaw (Ron Howard, Asilomar Beach, CA/Cumbre DX)

Some schedule changes observed. I am perfecting the schedule, but a few observations anyway.

5915 observed 2300-0300, 1000-1535.

5985 2300-0130, 0930-1535.

7200 0030-0230.

9730.8 0300-1130, sometimes 9730.8 runs \\ to 5915 around 1000-1130.

5985 and 7200 appear top be from the old location in the evenings as well
as the 9730.8 kHz.

5915 all the time and 5985 2300-0130 apopear to be from the new capital.

5770 Military station is 1230-1530 UT.

Myanma Radio moves to 7200

After watching 3 days (29-31 March) Myanma Radio moved to 7200 kHz 0030-0230 UTC this morning replacing 7185 kHz under the new 7 MHz channel area. They were in 7185 kHz during the past three days and only this morning (1st April) they started using 7200 kHz.

SLBC Colombo is still using 7190 kHz and yet to move on to the new area.
