This week on The State We're In - Midweek Edition, the show about human rights and human wrongs:

We ask what's the price of security and speak with a US government official about her experiences of being protected by Blackwater, as well as ask a professional mercenary what he thinks about the growing scandal.

We talk with star-crossed lovers in this week's theme. First we meet an Israeli woman and Palestinian man who fled the middle-East to stay together. And we hear the story of Sonny Boy, who was the child of a 38-year-old married Dutch woman and a dark-skinned young man of 20 from the Dutch colony of Surinam. And all this happened in 1928! Sonny Boy tells how he saw his parents' scandalous relationship.

This week Arts and Culture repeats the first Radio Book: "Who Drank Hector Hernandez?" by Dimitri Verhulst. Verhulst has been called "the Jacques Brel of Flemish literature."
