RFE/Radio Liberty resumes Radio Farda service to Iran

(WASHINGTON) — Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has today resumed shortwave radio broadcasts into Iran following the imposition of an internet blackout by the Islamic Republic. Working with several commercial vendors, RFE/RL’s Persian-language service Radio Farda is once again providing an alternative to state-controlled media. Radio Farda reaches 6.5 million Iranians.

As nationwide protests in Iran continue, Radio Farda remains a lifeline for the people of Iran, providing vital news and insight, amplifying the voices of activists, verifying the deaths of protesters, and delivering expert analysis on the developing U.S. response.

President & CEO Stephen Capus said:

“At this historic moment, when the Iranian people have been plunged into digital darkness by their government, Radio Farda’s return to the airwaves is an essential breakthrough. We’re reaching the people of Iran with the facts they need to stay safe – and ensuring their voices continue to be heard. Our journalists at Radio Farda are working nonstop to fulfill our commitment to the people of Iran.”

In the week leading up to the Islamic Republic’s internet blackout, Radio Farda’s digital reach surged. Between January 2-8, Radio Farda’s Instagram content was viewed at least 30 million times per day – 241.8 million views total – with 96% coming from Iran. Between December 28-January 5, Instagram video viewership rose by 411% over the previous seven-day period, with engagements soaring by 481%.

Radio Farda is a primary source of international perspectives on the crisis for Iranians, providing the latest statements from U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the House Foreign Affairs Committee Majority, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), as well as analyses of the crisis and its impact on U.S. and foreign policy debates and analysis by experts such as Jack Goldstone, Michael Sobolik, Michael Rubin, and Ilan Berman.

For the latest information on the protests, follow Radio Farda’s live blogs in English and Persian.

Iran announces new domain address

Parstoday.com domain suspended

Tehran (ParsToday) - In an act against freedom of information release and under the pretense of sanctions, ParsToday's website at parstoday.com has been suspended. ParsToday is a website that offers news and cultural content in 25 languages.

For the past few days,  parstoday.com has been unavailable to its audience around the world.

The company that operates the .com domain has announced that it is no longer serving the ParsToday domain because the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) is under sanctions from the US Treasury Department, the European Union, and Canada.

The World Service of the Broadcasting Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran then announced that the ParsToday website will be available immediately worldwide in all languages under the ".ir" domain at the address   https://parstoday.ir   (formerly - parstoday.com)

Since 2015, the news, culture, and radio channel ParsToday has been publishing news and various multimedia content for its audience and users around the world in 25 languages, including German.

In accordance with the American policy of diplomacy combined with pressure and sanctions, on November 16, 2022, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Organization and several journalists from that organization.

Following the implementation of the European Union's sanctions against the Broadcasting Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the satellite operator of the Eutelsat satellite also announced on Thursday, December 22nd that it had stopped broadcasting all IRIB ParsToday broadcasts.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani tweeted: "The sanctioning of the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation and the English-language news channel PressTV is a continuation of the American government's flagrant violation of the rights of the Iranian people and aims to prevent the voice and opinion of Iran in the world and to leave the hands and voices of the terrorist networks and media open to wreak havoc against the Iranian people. US crimes against independent peoples and governments never end.”

Al-Qaida Will Return to Afghanistan, British Official Says

By Jamie Dettmer
August 13, 2021 08:09 AM
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace warned Friday that Afghanistan risks becoming a failed state and predicted a-Qaida will again thrive in the country.

“I’m absolutely worried that failed states are breeding grounds for those types of people,” he told British broadcaster Sky News.

Hours earlier Wallace announced Britain will dispatch hundreds of combat-ready paratroopers to Kabul to help evacuate more than 4,000 Britons and as many as 2,000 Afghans, who are likely to be killed by the Taliban for working with the British military. Iran warns protestors will 'pay the price' as unrest turns deadly
Tehran (AFP) - Iran warned on Sunday that protesters will "pay the price" after a third night of unrest saw mass demonstrations across the country, two people killed and dozens arrested.
Videos on social media showed thousands marching across the country overnight in the biggest test for the Islamic republic since mass protests in 2009.
They showed demonstrations in Mashhad, Isfahan and many smaller cities but travel restrictions and limited coverage by official media made it difficult to confirm reports.
