Texas Radio Shortwave turns six years old this Friday, November 28, and we’re celebrating in style.  We’ve rerecorded our very first broadcast, this time with higher-quality versions of the original music and refreshed announcements.

Our inaugural show aired via North American pirate station Radio GaGa, back before we settled on a regular music format.  It’s an eclectic mix—two Texas artists in the set, plus a grab-bag of songs we just liked.  Artists include Gary P. Nunn, Tom Petty, Green Day, Jethro Tull, and The Specials.

Pop Shop Radio slated to celebrate 5 Years on the air

 

We will be celebrating 5 years on the air with a 250 kilowatt transmission from Woofferton, UK, airing on 11960 kHz,  9 September at 0300 UTC,  beamed to North America. 

There will be a special 5th Anniversary QSL for all shows that week,

The 250 kW show will be repeated at 10 kW from Channel 292, Germany, at 1700 UTC on 3955 and 9670 kHz.

Those shows will be different than the shows on our normal time slots!

Pop Shop Radio set for directional antenna test this week

 

I am planning a Pop Shop Radio really cool directional antenna test from Channel 292 this week! I have taken last week's show and augmented it with embedded digital data during the songs. The artist and title of each song will be transmitted in MFSK32 during the song.

Each 10-second blast will be during instrumental breaks, but you'll want to have FLDigi or Tivar up during the whole show. 

It will be at 0300 UT on Friday 19 July. Frequencies will be 6070 kHz - non-directional for Europe, and 9670 kHz directional for North America.

If need be, feel free to use a web SDR for your reception. 9670 has been heard well into the USA midwest, so it will be interesting to see the resilience of MFSK32 under challenging conditions. S

Special eQSL to be issued, so set up any automation you need, especially in Europe as it will be early in the morning for you!

Rescheduled: Pop Shop Radio Directional Antenna Test from Channel 292

 

The pneumatic mast issue at C292 has been resolved, so I have arranged for the directional antenna test to take place this week. It will be at 2200 UT on 9670 kHz on Sunday 30 June across Asia toward Australia, which should give it a darkness path for the most part, although it will be 8 AM Monday morning in Melbourne.

This is to be simulcast on 6070 non-directional for Europe. The program will be the Top 15 chart countdown from 1050 CHUM Toronto from 1 July 1974.

Update from Channel 292 and Pop Shop Radio

From the host of Pop Shop Radio, the following announcement,

Rainer at Channel 292 has informed me that he will be doing some work on the transmitter for 9670 on Wednesday which will extend into Thursday. 

Therefore, 9670 will be off the air at that time. My show, Pop Shop Radio, will be shifted to Friday 21 June at 1600 UT for both 3955 and 9670

I have arranged for a directional antenna test with Channel 292 at 2200 UT on 9670 kHz on Sunday 23 June across Asia toward Australia, which should give it a darkness path for the most part, although it will be 8 AM Monday morning in Melbourne.

Pop Shop Radio slated for June 11 broadcast

 

As a follow-up to the improvements Channel 292 has made to the directional antenna for 9670 kHz, I have scheduled a special transmission to North America using the beam. 

 I wanted to take advantage of a darkness path so I have scheduled the following: 

Tuesday 11 June at 0300 UT (11PM ET Monday) on both 9670 and 6070. 

While 6070 is largely unavailable in North America as it is co-channel with CFRX, 9670 should only have adjacent channel issues with Radio Voz from Brazil on 9665.1-ish.

I am hoping for a further skip into the Midwest

TRSW Schedule Update  

Channel 292, Rohrbach, Germany, added TRSW to its schedule for June through December:

The first consecutive Saturday and Sunday of each month, Saturday is 3955 kHz at 1900 UTC, and Sunday is 9670 kHz at 1200 UTC.

We plan to schedule shows for TRSW's fifth anniversary on November 28 and Christmas.

We're happy to hear from worldwide listeners using remote SDRs.

TRSW QSLs all correct, detailed reception reports with a different, new verification for every show.

Texas Radio Shortwave testing for Europe on April 13 and 14

 

Channel 292, Rohrbach, Germany, will air three Texas Radio Shortwave test programs on April 13 and 14.  These broadcasts are intended to help TRSW gauge propagation and listener numbers.

Here’s the schedule:

Saturday, April 13, 2100 UTC, 3955 kHz (tentative)

Sunday, April 14, 1000 UTC, 9670 kHz.

The one-hour programs will feature 23 versions of TRSW’s signature tune, The Yellow Rose of Texas.

Texas Radio Shortwave resumes programming on April 7

 

Texas Radio Shortwave returns to Channel 292 in Rohrbach, Germany, monthly on the first Sunday, beginning April 7.  Programs will air at 1100 UTC on 6070 kHz and 1700 UTC on 3955 kHz.

With TRSW’s extensive program library, listeners will hear shows that weren’t aired in Europe.  April’s and May’s offerings feature music from Texas’s iconic dance halls.  The subject of June’s show hasn’t been determined.

The station welcomes reports from listeners using remote receivers like KiwiSDRs.

Tony Pavick of Pop Shop Radio reports, "A few days back I received an email from Rainer at Channel 292 that their 3955 frequency will be off the air for another two weeks at least. My guess is that we will see it back on the air the first full week of March."
