Shortwave Blog "Bytes"

All times UTC // parallel frequency

Andaman & Nicobar Islands log
All India Radio-Port Blair 4760, 1443-1526, 2/25/09. Vernacular programming of subcontinent music and program of indigenous chanting/singing. Local news at 1500, at 1512 switched over to programming from New Delhi. Noted on parallel 9425 at 1512. In the past I have often heard AIR Shillong (4970) also changing over to Delhi programming at 1512. Assume they start at this odd time to give them a chance to run some ads before the start of the news at 1515 (which was // 4775, 4880, [4970 AIR-Shillong had only a carrier on today, no audio heard] 4990, 5010 and 5040) (Howard-CA)

Congo Democratic Republic QSL news
Got a reply from Richard McDonald at Radio Kahuzi in Bukavu, confirming my 26 Oct. 2007 reception on 6210. In his reply, he states they were running 1044 watts at the time. And that "We were on the air each Monday and Friday". Don't know if that means they are presently off SW or not.

I sent a followup message asking for some info about the current status. I suspect they're off and have been off. Richard goes on to say he'll be in nearby Altoona in early April for a missionary conference and hopes to get some help in "studio and broadcasting techniques". If possible, I hope to meet him and gain more info on the station.

Germany's non-stop broadcast to the world
Via Media Network, http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork

Telegraph.co.uk is publishing daily articles from the archive 70 years ago chronicling the build-up to the Second World War. One is about German propaganda broadcasts from the shortwave station at Zeesen

By night and day, with scarcely a break throughout the 24 hours, the German short-wave station at Zeesen – said to have cost £1,000,000 – is pumping out programmes to the world, with announcements and news in English, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, and, of course, German. The scale of its ceaseless activity is matched only by Daventry, the BBC Empire station, with the difference that the BBC uses English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian and French.

Japan's JMH and Tokyo Volmet will change their site
According to "Research Site of Nazaki Transmitter Site", Meteorological FAX broadcast JMH (3622.5 7795 13988.5 kHz, 5 kW, F3C) by Japan Meteorological Agency will switch both their facility and transmitter site at 0421 UT on March 4, from Nazaki Transmitter Site (36 10 N 139 51 E) to Kagoshima Fishery Transmitting Station (31 19 N 130 31 E).

Tokyo Volmet (2863 6679 8828 13882 kHz) will also change the transmitter site at 0440 on March 4, from Nazaki to Kagoshima.

There will be no transmission from Nazaki Transmitter Site hereafter. Nazaki Transmitter Site, located in Koga City, Ibaragi prefecture, was built in 1934 for overseas shortwave broadcasting. On August 15, 1945, "Edict of Ending the War" by Emperor Hirohito was transmitted over this
site. The site was used for overseas broadcasting until 1970. After that the site has been used for standard time signal (JJY/JG2AS), FAX news and meteorological broadcasts, and Volmet broadcast. Yamata transmitter site, now used for overseas broadcasting, is neighboring this site.
