The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has revealed it will fast-track the development of a new permanent home for staff in Brisbane. Managing director Mark Scott said the ABC has been exempted from the Australian federal government’s normal capital works approval process, meaning plans for a new site can be fast-tracked.
Mr Scott said the site will be chosen soon from a shortlist of possible locations. “What we can say today is that having done a tender process, having done a thorough evaluation of that, we’ve now made a decision that what we’re going to do is build a new purpose-built home for the ABC in Brisbane,” he said.
The ABC abandoned its former Brisbane headquarters last December because of concerns over a breast cancer cluster among staff, reports ABC Regional Online.
