Azeri regulators give frequencies to foreign radio stations

Text of report by Azerbaijani news agency Turan
Baku, 8 December: From 1 January 2007, Radio Liberty and Voice of America will be broadcasting in Azerbaijan on 101.7 FM. The decision to this effect was made at today’s meeting of the National TV and Radio Council. Radio Liberty and the Voice of America earlier broadcast on the FM frequencies of the radio stations ANS and Anten.
As for BBC programmes which were also broadcast on ANS, they will now be on the air on 103.3 FM. The council’s meeting extended for another six years the licence of the musical radio channel Europe Plus Baku.
The consideration of the extension of the licence of the Zaqatala regional Aygun TV channel was postponed until the next meeting because of shortcomings the documents contained.
