Iran announces new domain address

 

Parstoday.com domain suspended

Tehran (ParsToday) - In an act against freedom of information release and under the pretense of sanctions, ParsToday's website at parstoday.com has been suspended. ParsToday is a website that offers news and cultural content in 25 languages.

For the past few days,  parstoday.com has been unavailable to its audience around the world.

The company that operates the .com domain has announced that it is no longer serving the ParsToday domain because the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) is under sanctions from the US Treasury Department, the European Union, and Canada.

The World Service of the Broadcasting Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran then announced that the ParsToday website will be available immediately worldwide in all languages under the ".ir" domain at the address   https://parstoday.ir   (formerly - parstoday.com)

Since 2015, the news, culture, and radio channel ParsToday has been publishing news and various multimedia content for its audience and users around the world in 25 languages, including German.

In accordance with the American policy of diplomacy combined with pressure and sanctions, on November 16, 2022, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Organization and several journalists from that organization.

Following the implementation of the European Union's sanctions against the Broadcasting Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the satellite operator of the Eutelsat satellite also announced on Thursday, December 22nd that it had stopped broadcasting all IRIB ParsToday broadcasts.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani tweeted: "The sanctioning of the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation and the English-language news channel PressTV is a continuation of the American government's flagrant violation of the rights of the Iranian people and aims to prevent the voice and opinion of Iran in the world and to leave the hands and voices of the terrorist networks and media open to wreak havoc against the Iranian people. US crimes against independent peoples and governments never end.”

Radio Habana Cuba's Arnaldo "Arnie" Coro passes away in Havana

 



Prominent Cuban journalist and professor Arnaldo Coro Antich passes away

Havana, January 8 (RHC)-- In the early hours of this Sunday morning, the outstanding journalist and university professor Arnaldo (Arnie) Coro Antich, with a long working career in Cuban radio, passed away in Havana.

Winner of the National Radio Award 2017, Coro was born on July 2, 1942. From a very young age, he was linked to radio broadcasting. He was an expert radio amateur (his call sign: CO2KK) and a specialist in Mass Media and New Information and Communications Technologies.

He taught as Assistant Professor at the Higher Institute of International Relations of MINREX and served as Vice President of the Cuban Commission for the Preservation of Audiovisual Heritage, created by UNESCO.

Arnie Coro was the author of numerous scientific and technical publications, including the book "La Guerra Radial de Los Estados Unidos de América Contra Cuba," published in 1984.  

He was the host of the internationally-renowned radio program "Dxers Unlimited," which he kept on-the-air for many years on the English-language broadcasts of Radio Havana Cuba. "Dxers Unlimited" was one of the most popular radio programs in English and was considered a professional guide to shortwave listening around the world.   

Arnie's last working years were spent in Radio Habana Cuba’s English language service, a group that regrets his death and sends its condolences to his family and friends.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 26 December - 01 January 2023

Solar activity was at low to moderate levels. Moderate levels were observed on 27 Dec, 29 Dec, and 30 Dec.


 The largest flare was an M3/2n (R1-Minor) from Region 3176 (N20, L=008, class/area=Eko/430 on 31 Dec). Other significant regions that produced low-level M-flare activity were Region 3169 (N22, L=117, class/area=Fkc/490 on 27 Dec) and Region 3180 (N19, L=309, class/area=Dso/220 on 01 Jan). Associated with flare M-flare activity on 30 Dec from Region 3176 was an EIT wave, visible in SUVI 195 imagery around 30/1528 UTC, and a CME signature in subsequent STEREO-A COR2 coronagraph imagery around 30/1653 UTC. Analysis and modeling of the event suggested onset on 04 Jan. No other CMEs were determined to be Earth-directed from available coronagraph imagery. The other remaining 11 numbered active regions observed during the reporting were either quiet or only produced C-class activity. 

No proton events were observed in geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels from 26 Dec - 01 Jan. The highest flux observed was 3,680 pfu at 30/1510 UTC. 

Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm levels. The arrival of a CME that left the Sun on 24 Dec combined with positive polarity CH HSS influence caused G1 conditions on 26-27 Dec. Solar wind speeds during that time ranged between 500-600 km/s. Quiet to unsettled conditions were observed on 28 Dec and through most of 29 Dec. At the end of 29 Dec, a CIR ahead of another positive polarity CH HSS caused conditions to increase to G1 conditions on 30 Dec. Under the influence of the coronal hole, wind speeds increased to between 500-600 km/s through the remainder of the reporting period. As total magnetic field strength dropped from a peak of 12 nT on 30 Dec to between 4-7 nt over 31 Dec - 01 Jan, geomagnetic conditions responded with quiet to
active conditions. 

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 02 January - 28 January 2023

Solar activity is expected to be at low levels, with a chance for M-class flares, through the outlook period due to multiple M-class flares (R1-Minor) producing regions both on the visible disk and regions on the far side that are due to rotate back onto the disk. 

No proton events are expected in geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels on 02-03 Jan, 05-09 Jan, and 20-28 Jan. The remainder of the outlook period is likely to be at normal to moderate levels. 

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm conditions. G1 conditions are likely on 04-05 Jan due to the combined effects of a CME that left the Sun on 30 Dec and coronal hole effects. G1 conditions are again likely on 19-20 Jan and 26 Jan due to multiple, recurrent CH HSSs. Active conditions are likely on 02 Jan, 06 Jan, 18 Jan, and 27 Jan; unsettled conditions are likely on 07 Jan, 14 Jan, 17 Jan, 21 Jan, 25 Jan, and 28 Jan. All active and unsettled conditions are in response to anticipated effects from multiple, recurrent coronal holes. The remainder of the outlook period is likely to be at mostly quiet levels.

Shortwave Radiogram schedules, January 7-9

 

Hello friends

I hope the year 2023 is starting well for you. Here in northern Virginia, we could use some rain, or snow, or anything wet.

A  reminder about recent Shortwave Radiogram schedule adjustments:

The Sunday 2330 UTC broadcast has moved to Saturday 2300-2330 UTC, on the same frequency: 7570 kHz from WRMI Florida. Listeners in Europe will probably hear Voice of Korea (North Korea) (and maybe also jamming) instead of WRMI.

The Mighty KBC has moved from Sunday 0000-0200 UTC to Sunday 2200-2400 UTC, now on 5950 kHz from WRMI Florida. A minute of MFSK64 is at 2330 UTC. The reception was best last week in the northeast USA and eastern Canada, and the signal reached as far as Europe.
The Tuesday 1530-1600 UTC broadcast on 9955 kHz is no more.

Covering the funeral of Pope Benedict XVI

 


The funeral Mass for Pope Benedict XVI, who died Dec. 31 at the age of 95, will be held Jan. 5 at St. Peter’s Square with Pope Francis as presider. The Mass is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Rome time, which is 3:30 a.m. Eastern.

An estimated 60,000 people are expected to attend the funeral in St. Peter’s Square.

EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) will broadcast the services, beginning at 3 a.m. and leading up to the 3:30 a.m. funeral.

US Begins Installing ‘Mighty’ Over-The-Horizon Radar In Palau That Can Detect Objects Thousands of KMs Away!

The United States has begun work on the deployment of a new long-range over-the-horizon radar system for the United States Air Force, which will be placed on the Pacific island of Palau.

The sensor station, known as the Tactical Mobile Over-the-Horizon Radar, or TACMOR, will be set up on the highly strategic island of Palau. The sensor station intends to improve the situational awareness of US and allied forces operating in the region in the air and maritime domain. 

The Department of Defense announced on December 28 that it had granted Gilbane’s Federal business a $118.4 million contract to develop the structural foundation of a new US Air Force radar station to be built in the Republic of Palau.

Gilbane Federal will build reinforced concrete pads and other foundational components as part of the firm-fixed-price contract to set up the Tactical Mobile Over-the-Horizon Radar system, the Department of Defense said. 

The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific acts as the contracting activity for what is known as the TACMOR infrastructure project. The work is anticipated to be finished by June 2026.

According to a solicitation notice issued in May, the project involves the development of utilities to support transmission and receiver antennas for research purposes. The contract excludes TACMOR equipment, which includes the research antenna suite, calibration devices, and a marine surveillance platform.

Absolute Radio to switch off all AM transmitters across the UK

 



Bauer is removing Absolute Radio from Medium wave this month as it turns off all AM frequencies for the station across the country.

Absolute Radio launched exclusively on AM (as Virgin Radio) 30 years ago in 1993 using predominantly 1215 kHz along with fill-in relays on 1197, 1233, 1242, and 1260. Some of these have been turned off in recent years in places such as Devon, Merseyside, and Tayside.

Whilst this is a historic milestone for the radio industry, it shouldn’t affect many listeners as just two percent of all radio listening currently takes place on AM.

Absolute Radio also lost its FM frequency in London in 2021 in favor of the ever-expanding Greatest Hits Radio network.

The move makes Absolute Radio a digital-only service, broadcasting nationally on DAB and online.

1215 kHz – or 247 meters, was previously used by BBC Radio 1 when it launched, and later, BBC Radio 3. Prior to 1967, it was used by the BBC Light Programme.

In addition, Bauer has also announced licenses carrying Greatest Hits Radio in Staffordshire and Cheshire, Bradford & Huddersfield and Teesside will also be turned off.

GHR is available on FM in West Yorkshire and will soon be available on FM in Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 26 December - 01 January 2023

Solar activity was at low to moderate levels. Moderate levels were observed on 27 Dec, 29 Dec, and 30 Dec. The largest flare was an M3/2n (R1-Minor) from Region 3176 (N20, L=008, class/area=Eko/430 on 31 Dec). Other significant regions that produced low-level M-flare
activity were Region 3169 (N22, L=117, class/area=Fkc/490 on 27 Dec) and Region 3180 (N19, L=309, class/area=Dso/220 on 01 Jan). There was an EIT wave, visible in SUVI 195 imagery around 30/1528 UTC, and a CME signature in subsequent STEREO-A COR2 coronagraph imagery
around 30/1653 UTC. Analysis and modeling of the event suggested onset on 04 Jan. No other CMEs were determined to be Earth-directed from available coronagraph imagery. The other remaining 11 numbered active regions observed during the reporting were either quiet or
only produced C-class activity. 

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels from 26 Dec - 01 Jan. The highest flux observed was 3,680 pfu at 30/1510 UTC. 

Geomagnetic field activity was ranged from quiet to G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm levels. The arrival of a CME that left the Sun on 24 Dec combined with positive polarity CH HSS influence caused G1 conditions on 26-27 Dec. Solar wind speeds during that time ranged
between 500-600 km/s. Quiet to unsettled conditions were observed on 28 Dec and through most of 29 Dec. At the end of 29 Dec, a CIR ahead of another positive polarity CH HSS cause conditions to against increase to G1 conditions on 30 Dec. Under the influence of the
coronal hole, wind speeds increased to between 500-600 km/s through the remainder of the reporting period. As total magnetic field strength dropped from a peak of 12 nT on 30 Dec to between 4-7 nt over 31 Dec - 01 Jan, geomagnetic conditions responded with quiet to
active conditions. 

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 02 January - 28 January 2023

Solar activity is expected to be at low levels, with a chance for M-class flares, through the outlook period due to multiple M-class flare (R1-Minor) producing regions both on the visible disk and regions on the farside that are due to rotate back onto the disk. 

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels on 02-03 Jan, 05-09 Jan, and 20-28 Jan. The remainder of the outlook period is likely to be at normal to moderate levels. 

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm conditions. G1 conditions are likely on 04-05 Jan due to combined effects of a CME that left the Sun on 30 Dec and coronal hole effects. G1 conditions are again likely on
19-20 Jan and 26 Jan due to multiple, recurrent CH HSSs. Active conditions are likely on 02 Jan, 06 Jan, 18 Jan, and 27 Jan; unsettled conditions are likely on 07 Jan, 14 Jan, 17 Jan, 21 Jan, 25 Jan, and 28 Jan. All active and unsettled conditions are in
response to anticipated effects from multiple, recurrent coronal holes. The remainder of the outlook period is likely to be at mostly quiet levels.
