Thailand's coup-installed government launched a nationwide crackdown on community radio stations May 18, saying it will check nearly 3,000 stations for threats to "national security." The previous day, Thailand's government shut down three broadcasters that had aired comments from ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who voiced his concern for the poor and called for early elections.
